VERY LOW CAL DIETS

Anyone else who's lost 100+ lbs been instructed by a physician to consume only around 1000 calories per day in order to maintain? I've been given this advice and am wondering how common it is, tips, etc.

(Not looking for a ton of people to tell me how bad it is to eat less than 1200 calories a day, as I have been given this advice by more than one MD who knew my health history. For "normal" people, yes, 1200 calories is necessary for adequate nutrition and loss).

I do intermittent fasting. I just skip breakfast, but don't make up those calories. If my super hungry I eat. I eat salads for dinner and lunch with some lean protein. Salads are so low calorie it allows me to have yummy teats like popcorn and pizza. I only ate 2 pieces of pizzas after my salad because I was full. I rarely eat bread and sugars. I was low carb for 2 years but only lost 10 lbs that I kept regaining. I'm back to low calorie and I've dropped 5lb in 6 days. I don't feel hungry because I'm full with salad and a few splurges in moderation. This is easier than low carb for me because I always felt deprived and comparable things like biscuits are made with high calorie almond flour and cheese.

Nope. Then again I'd probably be asking where on earth they pulled that recommendation from. I have lost and am still losing at around 1600-2000 calories per day. I've lost a little over 120 lbs and there is no way I would listen to a doctor who told me to drop to 1000 calories. It would be just plain stupid for me to do so.

That said did you ask questions about the recommendation. If not you should and maybe ask for a referral to a dietician since they specialize in nutritional needs.

    Unless you're bed-ridden and below 5', I can't see 1,000 being maintenance.

Sound like a load of B/S. There is just no way, 1000cals would be well below your BMR let alone your TDEE. How many calories are you eating now? Increase your calories each week by a small amount and eventually you will work out where to maintain.

Also, even after losing 100+ pounds you don't stop being a "normal person". Losing weight does not damage your metabolism.

OP made this thread three years ago. They've either wasted away or come to their senses.

I don't understand what kind of comment anyone can make if this advice has been given based on your medical history
