Jogging - insides of calves are really sore?

Hi all! I've been doing Couch to 5K for awhile, off and on with no problems, but in the past two weeks, after I run I've been getting really sore on the insides of my lower calves, towards my ankle. It feels deeper than muscle soreness. Has anyone ever experienced this? I make sure I stretch completely after each run, and I'm only running for about 30-45 min at a time. Possibly could be shin splints? But I've never really had this kind of pain before. Any thoughts would be great, thank you!

  • I don't have any advice for you, sorry, but I am experiencing this, too. I had to take 6 weeks off from working out due to stress fractures in my foot, and I'm feeling this now as I'm getting back into dancing and running. I'd like some insights as well!

Are your shoes getting worn out on the bottom, probably more on the outside. May or may not be the problem, but worth looking at as it can cause you to have some funky motion in your foot.

Also if you tend to land on the front of your foot, if it is more towards the back of your leg it may be your Achilles tendon, if so then you need to let it rest, then try some foam rolling before and after your run as well as look up specific stretches to be sure it is well stretched.

In any case it doesn't sound like shin splints, which would mostly be on the front of you shin. But I would definitely check your shoes and take a day or two to let it heal up well before stressing it again.
