I've never lifted heavy before. I'm terrified I'm gonna like, collapse under the weight of these bars. Am I just being silly? I saw the recommended weights for the beginning..it just seems really heavy to me..

you should be fine squatting with the bar.. Just get under it and stand up holding the bar up on your back/shoulders and you'll see if it's too heavy for you or not. Most likely it will be fine. I was super skinny and weak when I started lifting weights and I had no issues squatting with the bar.

Bench press was another thing. I got under that and tried benching the bar by itself and was like "WTFF This this is so heavy!" I only did 1 rep and quit. Then I realized my gym had a lighter 35lb bar so I used that to start with until I worked my way up to 45lb.

I'm certain you are stronger than you think. Just start where you feel comfortable and make sure you are challenging yourself.

Start with an empty bar to get accostomed to the movements. Add weight little by little, till you find a good working set weight.

That's right. Just start nice an easy and low weights. As your body gets stronger you can move up. You should never try to lift more than you are capable of. You want to get your form down with lower weights. Let your body adjust. You are likely to be sore even with lower weights just starting out.

You've lost 42lbs. The bar is 45 pounds. You used to carry that weight around every minute of every day. You've totally got this.
