Buying one today. How do I calculate calories with these things?
Really gonna need to know when I start Insanity this week.

It should tell you in the instructions. I have a Polar FT4 and it calculates calories for me. I hit start when I start my workout, then stop when I'm done, and it tells me how many minutes and calories I burned during my workout.0

Okay. I will see if I can find one that does that then. I dont know if the ones I was looking at do that or not.0

I have an older version of this one and it tells you what your calorie burn is. It calculates it based on when your heart rate is within "cardio range" and you set the parameters for that by doing a few different things, as outlined in the manual to set it up. You also input your weight, and adjust it according to loss, etc. It really is VERY accurate. I LOVE mine. It motivates me to keep pushing to increase my calorie burn.

Some can upload data to a website. It makes it easy to track and trend your performance improvements as you get in to better shape. Worth considering before you buy. I'm using a Suunto HRM that connects to a free site called movescount.com
Msg me if you have any questions. Good luck, they're a great tool to have.0 -
I also have a Polar FT4. It's fairly easy to set up and use; when I bought it I went to the website and did a walk through of how to set it up for my gender, height, weight, etc. There's also a booklet that comes with it which I highly suggest reading thru at your leisure so you get max performance and longer lifespan out of the device.0

Get an FT4 or FT7 as they will calculate what you want in the gym - many or the garmin ones are specific to running/cycling - they calculate based on distance. These are next to useless for Insanity.
You enter your parameters (age, sex, weight, etc) and then wear the HRM belt and voila - it spits out the the numbers.0 -
I agree about the Polar FT4 or FT7. I have the 4 and really like it. It was simple to set up and very easy to use. Like a previous poster said, once it's set up initially, you just start and stop along with your workout.0

There are so many of them to choose from. I can't spend more than $50 on one right now. But I need one with Insanity coming this week. I am definitely gonna check out what you all posted. Thank you!0
