Muscle relaxers?

I have a back injury that causes my back muscles to spasm and tense REALLY bad (to the point that my muscles have started to pull enough to give me scoliosis). Sometimes the muscle spasms cause a pain in my hip that makes walking difficult. Is it dangerous to take muscle relaxers before exercising? They don't make me tired or uncoordinated at all.

I have back spasms. I have an Rx for Cyclobenzaprine (Flexoril). I only take it when I have very severe episodes. And then only as a last resort. That stuff makes me really groggy and lethargic for about 14-16 hours. I find it really debilitating.0

talk to your doctor about it.
have you tried things like foam rolling, chiropractic adjustments, or deep tissue massage?
drugs should be the last option.0 -

I have that too, the one I use more often is Skelaxin. They don't affect me that much, I don't get groggy at all. I pretty much have to take some sort of muscle relaxer daily or I won't be able to make it through the day. I just worry about what exercising with "relaxed" muscles could do, if that'd be dangerous at all.0 -

Physical therapy has been the biggest help but there were still problems even with going 3x a week. He did some sort of infrared laser thing that relaxed the muscles, it felt amazing but it wasn't affective for very long. I get the results of an MRI on my back tomorrow morning, I'm curious to see if there are any other reasons for my muscles to be spasming as much as they are.0 -

Flexeril is known to have high sedative properties - if you find this really debilitating talk to your doctor for other less-sedating choices (they exist but as I work in the field I will not mention them by name on the web) or NSAIDS as the first line of treatment.0
