Samsung galaxy tab won't boot up

Samsung galaxy tab stays stuck on the boot up screen. I can access the Android tools menu, where it gives me a string of 'Error cache not found' type messages. I've tried a hard reset, which should have wiped everything and set me back to factory settings, with the same result. I have no idea what/how this happened. I shut it down as normal one night, the next morning it wouldn't boot up. No new downloads the day before or anything.

    You probably need to download software for it and flash the software.

    I'm a bio geek not a teckie, what is flashing (other than a Ray Stephens song)?
