Need advise on food and nausea

Hello!
I was hit by a car in April and my stomach just hasn't quite recovered. I was a girl who LOVED her food but I can honestly say my appetite has been diminished. I don't feel hungry the way I used to by any means. In fact, I usually wait for people to be around so I can report to someone that I have eaten and then I eat what everyone else is eating. Most of the time I'm more than satisfied with half-portions and there are some days where I have eaten one meal in the entire day...even though I didn't feel hungry.
I am constantly nauseous. I haven't been on pain meds for the last two months (I have them for PT, but I'm not currently allowed to go to PT). I was taking up to 12 600mg of Ibuprofen a day but for the last almost 6 weeks I have been on the low dose of meloxicam. I am gluten intolerant, which seems to be even more pronounced since the hospital stay, and have stayed within those guidelines for at least the last four months. (Had a couple of trial and errors at first which worked out...poorly.) I take a multivitamin, B12, 10,000 units of D3 (because I'm just this side of rickets since the accident, according to my bloodwork), magnesium, and two high potency fish oil caplets. I usually have those for breakfast because "it's the most important meal of the day" and I have to take them four hours out from my levothyroxine and four hours out from my omezaprole. I have been taking an acid reducer per doctor's orders for the last two months because she thought that was the reason for the nausea (I'm apparently too nervous these days, even if I don't necessarily show it) but it hasn't helped. She thought it might also be the magnesium but I stopped taking it for two weeks and it made no difference.
My question is if there is anything I can do to A) Regulate my eating cycle so I start feeling hungry again and/or Reduce the nausea? Between the pain and the stomach churning I am feeling defeated. I've lost 40 pounds since April (not necessarily fat) and I'm really concerned about what happens next.
Any advise is appreciated!

I've been sick the last few days. I'd suggest small meals, which is sounds like you do already if you're eating half-portions. Spread them out through the day so you're at more of a constant level of something in the tummy. Eat bland items - oatmeal, rice, bananas. Other than that you have my sympathy! Having nausea sucks! It's so hard to even think about food!
Oh and take as many of the pills as you can at night - so you're sleeping when they kick in rather than in the morning so they have all day to make you feel ill.0 -
A couple of things that helped me with nausea were Peppermint and Ginger. Peppermint tea is soothing in general, but especially so with the tummy. Ginger tea can do the same. If you like ginger, add fresh ginger to all sorts of things.
I hope you can solve this - what a rotten thing to be going through.0 -
Could be the fish oil - I had probelms with my pre-natal vitamins. I was nauseaous from them (I never had morning sickness unless I took my pre-natals on an empty stomach). Try eating something light before taking those.0

I was started on Meloxicam last week and have been nauseous since then. That may be your culprit.0

I'm also gluten intolerant, take meloxicam pretty regularly for a shoulder injury and have had ongoing nausea and stomach problems for a while (possibly not related to the first two things). What helped me the most was adding probiotics. Get the good kind, that are live cultures that must be refrigerated. Take them in the morning, before you eat. Also, talk to your doctor about weening off the omezaprole, it could be hurting you more than helping you.0

Try eating something easy to digest early in the morning, then take your pills. I have issues taking pills (especially multivitamins) on an empty stomach. Is there any way to take some of them at a different time, so you aren't loading your stomach with different pills on a completely empty stomach?
As for the eating more regularly, preplan small meals throughout the day. Use MFP to make sure you are getting a good balance of nutrients and calories. Steamed veggies are good and easy to eat (even when nauseous). Applesauce. Grilled meat/protein. Beans. Nuts and nut butters - a good way to get some good fats in your diet.0 -
Thanks, everyone! I'm going to try a couple of the suggestions on here.
I didn't really think the fish oil would hurt because I took it before the accident and they didn't make me sick but I was never not eating before. I have never tried peppermint or ginger before so I bet those will be an easy addition.
I will also try to stick to more basic foods. I won't lie, most of the food I'm eating now consists of leftovers because it doesn't seem worth the effort to cook every day when I'm not eating everything in the first place.
I used to take probiotics before finding out about my gluten intolerance and they made me sick back then. In hindsight, though, if they were getting my tummy to work harder on something it shouldn't have been, that was probably why. I'll give them another shot!
A couple of you also seem to have problems with the Meloxicam so I'll talk to my doctor when I see him next week. It was my non-narcotic alternative when the ibuprofen stopped working. Maybe he'll have something else! And if it is the meloxicam, I can probably stop taking the omezaprole.
As for the spacing of my meds, I have to take my vitamins at the opposite time of day as my levothyroxine and I can't take the omezaprole within four hours of the levothyroxin. I figure if I do the levo in the morning, 4+ hours until the supplements (which isn't hard, since I'm usually up around 0300 these days), then the omezaprole at night I should be okay. Does anyone else have that spacing problem?0
