Have the desire but not much time

I had heard somewhere about myfitnesspal and thought I'd take a look. One thing I found I really liked compared to other online weightloss sites, the food/calorie tracker seems ALOT easier. With that in mind, I am really going to try to buckle down and start tracking my eating and try to find time to exercise. I have 3 kids at the house, and even though I am married(happily) I have no help running the kids to their after school activities(ones in high school band, one in soccer) and other than the chores my kids do, no help around the house. Right now, before soccer season starts next week, I have about 45 minutes in the afternoon I think I have to do something, which, in all honesty I'm kidding myself, but I do try to walk during those times, but only have about 2 days a week something doesn't come up with the kids that takes away from that. I have found a 5-6minute online exercise I want to start trying to do in the mornings, which requires me to be up at 4:45am instead of 5-5:15am. THAT is going to be hard, but looks like the only time I'll have for any exercise. Any advice, please share. We don't eat out alot, I do homecooked meals(crockpot as much as possible). If we have pasta it's whole wheat. I'm not a bread person for the most part. We eat veggies and salads and I try to get sodium free, reduced fat stuff as much as possible. I drink one diet coke first thing in the morning, then it's unsweet tea the rest of the day with 2-3glasses of water after I walk. So, that's my nutrition right now in a nutshell. I know there are others with the same time constraint issues so please share advice. I really want to lose weight and look better

  • Hi and Welcome

I'm a similar age and like you so time constrained I find exercise a real issue so I try and make daily things count.

I don't have children but I have a crazy job where I work usually around 12 hours a day with 2 hours commuting and I never have time for breaks so advice like " take a lunch time walk" doesn't work for me ...

Some people on here will tell you household chores don't count but I say if they make you out of breath and sweaty they do ! I make sure I go at my housework with gusto so it does count ... I don't use gadgets apart from the hoover I do everything by hand, and I have a husband who doesn't help !

I make sure I try and walk at weekends and when I get a rare day off work I make sure and walk to town and back.

Do feel free to add me as a friend , my loss is slow but I feel while I might not be getting lighter as quick as I want I am healthier and more mindful than when I started
  • HI and welcome for one. i am a mother of 2, no afterschool activities for them, but i am also a fulltime student. i use a 20 min workout dvd from Jillian Michaels called Kickbox Cardio. i have had good results so far.. done it for 3 weeks now. ive also used 30 Day shred, and Ripped in 30. (all JM videos) they are short and quick, but they will make you sweat. you can get them for around 10 bucks a piece in Wal-mart. Wwll baby is crying, but good luck to you!!! add me if you wish!
  • I do try to work up a good sweat cleaning house. I also am responsible for filing at work, which is standing, pulling big binders, filing the proper paperwork and putting binders back. Also, and I know this sounds a little crazy, but, when I'm the only one in my office, I try to take a few minutes and do lunges, toe lifts, pushups against the wall, etc, not to get sweaty but just to do a little. I'll keep what all you do in mind also. I have started playing fetch with out little dog, who doesn't bring the stick back to you, you have to chase him around the yard for itI(and grawl back at him while chasing him for the stick..he loves it)
