Holidays!!

I have realized that everyone who says well I will start it again after the holidays are full of it because when there is a holiday you have to learn how to handle it, If not it will just keep getting harder to resist. You just have to learn to say no sometimes. People at work have tons of carry in's and all week they had cookies doghnuts and I have not touched one thing and they sit in front of my desk. My in laws baked a bunch today and I will not be eating what they made instead they bought me rice cakes with all natural peanutbutter. I realized that it is easy to say no once you start it!! I don't think everyone who says they'll get back on the wagon after the holidays is full of crap, but I do agree we have to stop using every excuse to eat like crap.0

No I mean to not push themselves during hte holidays its an excuse not to say no. They need to learn to use it through the tough times have say not to foods when it is all around you. Yes most people who do say they will fall after about two weeks after. When I was in college it was funny to see how many people came to the gym for the first month then they quit coming.0

Thats a pretty big assumption to make about people. Unless you live in these peoples shoes you can not know that they are just using the holidays as an excuse not to say no. Motivation should be about building people up not reducing them to a joke.0

I'm not going to work my butt off during the holidays because there are family who I don't get to see through out the year except for xmas. I'm not going to stress out over every single piece of food that I put in my mouth because I would like to enjoy the holidays with my family and engage in conversation and enjoy the company. Does this mean that myself and everyone else who isn't paying that close of attention is going to shove everything in sight down our throat? No. Just because some says they'll get back on track after the holidays doesn't mean they are going all the way down to the bottom, or let the wagon run them over.
Maybe some people who are just starting aren't to that point of control yet. Maybe some people don't have control like you do.0 -
My goal is not to gain any weight during the holidays. I will eat cookies and other treats but everything goes into the log and I'm much more conscious of ingredients and portion sizes now.
It's going to be tough because my karate club is taking a break over the holidays :sad: but I've got some exercise planned for every single day until we start up again.
Those are MY goals and I wouldn't judge anybody else who has different goals. For me it's all about balance and moderation.

Hi,
isn't enjoying some great food with your family and friends one of the best things about the holidays? It is okay to enjoy the food and not just worry about how it will make you bigger. You do not have to eat tons to enjoy it either! Actually pick the things you like best in moderate amounts and eat them slowly to really enjoy the flavours and textures!! I rarely gain weight over the holidays and am more likely to gain weight during beach season, when I get really stressed! And I have yet to use the holidays as any kind of excuse. I hope everyone out there enjoys the holidays with as little stress as possible, and has a great time! It's about being present, being kind, giving, and loving not worrying about your weight!

I knew a woman at my previous job that was so beautiful & had a awesome body....she worked out all the time & wore beautiful dresses to work. She would always say when somebody would offer her sweets during the holidays or birthdays that she was allergic to sugar...I said WT???:noway: She brought me into her office one day & opened her top drawer to her desk & there was a BEFORE picture of her when she was overweight...I was so impressed with her willpower..:drinker: She had won the battle of the bulge
Some people can handle it & some cannot. :grumble: I'm like a alcoholic once I eat 1 bite it's all she wrote. some people can have 1 bite & be satisfied....If I were to do that I would want more & more & more...so I guess it depends on the individual if they can/cannot regain their "control". I hear you! Whenever I'm around goodies, ESPECIALLY now that it's Christmas, I can't seem to find ANY control! :noway: :grumble: But, I'm not worried, because I WILL get back on track AFTER I enjoy the holiday! :bigsmile: It CAN be done.0 -
I am hoping to get back on track! I know I will. I am still running 5-7 miles daily, its just during the holidays, I eat way more sweets! I am also a food addict, so I know I can not eat one cookie. : (0

I just think the way you approached the subject was very judgemental and I don't think it is right to make assumptions about everyone when you can't possible know everyones reasons for what they do. And to end a post talking about how funny it was to see people join a gym and then stop coming is disrespectful. To me it would be sad, I might feel bad for them because they were not mentally ready for a change but it would not be funny at all. I don't find comedy in other peoples failures. Furthermore I can't possibly know that it is a failure. In my case I had to quit my gym shortly after joining because of financial reason, but I came home and purchased a few essentials so that I could get a good work out at home. So I did not fail I just had to work out somehow other than having a gym membership and I know alot of people in my community that had to do the same.0 -

jdavis193-I have a friend who has fibromyalga (not sure how to spell it) and has spells where she physically can't get up some days. But she's lost a huge amount of weight. Now she is sick. So, for her waiting until after the holidays according to you is BS? You have no idea why people do the things that they do. She's waiting until after the holidays because she's sick and can't really move around right now but has stated that she'll try to get back on track after the holidays when she is hopefully feeling better. That's just one example right there of how totally off base you are for that making that comment. If some one joins the gym and after a month realizes that it isn't for them maybe financially, or mentally is that funny? No. There are reasons people do things that you don't know about. How dare you sit there and judge others.0 -
I do agree that I may have presented it wrong but for the ones that have nothing wrong with them I believe its an excuse. That is my personal opinion because people can still try even though there are obsticles. The gym thing I knew everyone that was in the gym so I knew them personally and they just didn't want to so that is funny to me because they had no reason not to they just did not want to put the effort into it. The ones that have problems thats not the ones who i was talking about. I have a friend that has tons of problems wrong with her shes kind of overweight and she can't eat certain foods. She is still excellent at finding ways to help her lose weight. Laziness is an excuse.0

I'm not gonna lie, I've gone to Christmas parties in the past couple of weeks and I've eaten and drank what I've wanted. During the week I continued with my normal eating and exercise. This is my favorite time of the year because of all the get togethers with friends and family, and I'm going to damn well enjoy it all! I know what I need to do for myself to continue to lose, and as long as I don't lose sight of that I think I'll be just fine.
I don't ever want to be one of those people who hate the holidays because of the food factor. I'm good all year, and I feel if this sets me back 2 pounds, it will be worth both of them!

I read it somewhere on this board and it is so true: so many people worry about what they are eating between Thanksgiving and New Years when they really need to focus on what they eat between New Years and Thanksgiving.0
