My current weight is 260 and my daily calorie allowance is 2100. I am close or a bit over on carbs every day (still working on that) and close or a bit under on fat. But my daily protein is way off. I am allocated 158g and I struggle to eat even 80g. I have read that I should eat 1g per pound of lean body mass, is that correct or is it 0.5g? I just can't believe that my eating is so far off in this regard. I have never been a huge meat consumer but if it's true that I need to double my protein, I guess I will have to start changing my meal plans in a big way. Is protein powder as good a source of protein as meat/dairy/soy? I could perhaps start incorporating protein powder into some of the things I currently eat. I just can't believe I'm so far off...

The last I heard was 0.8g/lb of body weight; at 80g you are probably low. Eggs are a cheap source of protein, and a lot of people swear by protein powder. Personally, it's eggs, milk, and meat, but I have always been a major carnivore.

I'm striving for 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass. That's 100 grams for me and it's a challenge! I have to seek out ways to increase protein.

I increase my portion of meat by an ounce or two at meals. I've switched from regular yogurt to Greek yogurt. I'm flavoring my milk with a couple of tablespoons of protein powder. My snacks are likely to include some cheese. All of these help.
