I know what I need to do, so why is it so hard. I have lost 20 pounds previously without even trying, so to speak. I stuck to a diet and incorporated exercise into my daily life. I believe that part of it is due to a bad relationship in which I substituted his absense with food. I am not really sure. I went to the doctor about a year ago, and she told me if I stick to a 1500 calorie diet I will lose weight easily, since I am 284 pounds now.
I have a struggle with night time eating. A typical calorie intake for me is 300 for breakfast, about 400 for lunch, and 400 for dinner, I save the other 400 calories for snacks that I want throughout the day. I do this succesfully every day, but once it is night time something happens and I feel the need to eat something that I don't need. I don't understand it, and would like some tips on how to surpass this. I know that self control is a big part of this, but it seems to get me every time. It really bugs me, and I am open to suggestions.

I find I want to snack in the evenings on unhealthy things when I'm bored so I now try to find things to do to occupy my mind as well as drink water to curb whatever appetite might be there.
