Are there gender differences in recovery time?

In this study, women took longer to regain wrist strength after fracture than men
http://esciencenews.com/articles/2008/09/25/women.do.not.recover.their.muscle.strength.fast.men
But here, they recovered faster from LOWER intensity strength training than men
http://www.unm.edu/~lkravitz/Article folder/recoveryUNM.html
Um, a bunch of chemistry might say women could be better at muscular endurance, & men at strength?
http://ajpendo.physiology.org/content/287/6/E1125.full
Another summary, suggesting women are better at endurance & men at power
http://www.drlenkravitz.com/Articles/sportcondfatigue.html <sorry, that's the same summary as above
Wondering if this might mean a difference in terms of optimal volume... (vs recovery)

interesting.. i wonder if they take into account the conditioning and type of exercise the person did before the study. human have both fast twitch and slow twitch muscles, i'm not sure if women supposedly being better at endurance than men is a natural thing or just because when most women exercise they tend to do endurance type exercises.0

That's a point, women have been socialized to do cardio, it's true, and there's got to be self-selection entering into it.
I just know my butt gets kicked when I lift too heavy. 4-5 days of recovery is pretty lame & counterproductive. Curious about how other women here feel...
I've also read that in the intensity-volume-frequency triad, you can compensate a bit for one by upping one of the other two. Though intensity's the best one for muscle gains, apparently, it's possible to get somewhere reasonable with more volume. Something like 'a muscle just knows it's tired'. (Links are on another computer, sorry, will see if I can find them.)
Because it'd be great to be more consistent without suffering so much!0 -
I thought this topic was going to be about a whole other kind of recovery time..... .. ..

Unrelated, but yeah, my hangovers are awful too. (Not that they happen often!!)0 -
We do respond differently to different sorts of pain and there have been several studies showingwomen respond better to morphine while men get more relief from ibprofin. Maybe the recovery time difference comes down to inflammation. http://www.healthboards.com/boards/reflex-sympathetic-dystrophy/839512-pain-killers-may-work-differently-men-women.html0

Interesting idea! Wish I knew enough to really properly get it...0
