How to do pushups with my injuries?

I know that usually you would start off with doing them on the knees. I tore the ligaments in both my knees a couple years back and never got the surgery I needed, and they are still incredibly sensitive. I tried doing wall pushups to get the strength to do a regular pushup, but I've made no progress. Any suggestions or a replacement?

Bench presses? The good part is that you can start with a fraction of your body weight and work your way up (I'm not sure of they engage your core the same as a pushup though...)

I've recently started doing them resting on a balance ball as I also have trouble with my knees. It really works your core but takes all pressure off your knees. Also maybe try pull ups. Lie on the floor under a table or something (a strong something) and then pull yourself up trying to keep your body flat. It's kind of like the reverse of a push up but no pressure on the knees. Hope this helps.

This is a wonderful idea! Especially for those with injuries or that want to do pullups without a pullup bar to do them with!
