Not Pushing Myself Enough?

So, I ran a mile yesterday and I've told myself that I'm going to run a mile every other day for the whole week... And on the off days: half a mile. Do you think that is enough for the first week? Or should I fight for a mile every day? I also play basketball and have rigorous practices every day... And ride horses...
What do you think?

Listen to your body - If you have aches and pains, scale it down. If after two weeks your body is responding well, increase your distance by 10% and start working on your speed. Slow and steady increases will keep you (or at least try to keep you) injury free. Even if you're feeling awesome, don't bite off more than you can chew0
