In honor of the events that happened 11 years ago today, take some time today to do something kind or helpful for someone else. Whether its simply opening a door, smiling and saying good morning, or helping out your community in some way.

What happened on 9/11/01 was an act of violence, and hatred. The only way to combat that and show that we are stronger and can rise above is to show our love, compassion, and support for our fellow Americans.

We are a country of believers, dreamers, forward thinkers: we showed how we can all band together in times of trouble and help one another- why not show that love, kindness, and american spirit not just on this day, but everyday.

Also, if you happen across a solider, whether active or not, take a moment and thank them for there service. Freedom is not free, and it's our military men and women, who risk there lives so that the rest of us can live the american dream.

    Hooah.

Except the only REALY way to combat it is through oppressive and decisive force - to hunt down, and exterminate those who propegate such actions.

I would expand that to include thanking all first responders (fire, ems, police) as well as soldiers. They are all putting their life on the line to protect and serve the general public.

If I can bear to walk around here today at lunch, I will do just that! Lower Manhattan on 9/11 is not an easy place to be.

Good post! I don't think we should only do this, just to commemorate the events that took place 11 years ago. It should be done all day, every day, with every person you meet. Not just one person.

Agreed! as an Army and Marine mom, I am grateful more than most will ever know, when someone shows gratitude towards all our sons and daughters.

Agreed. And I also agree with thanking the first responders you may come across today.

Our son has always grown up around firemen and women (his grandfather is retired and a number of our good friends are still active duty) so for the past few years on 9/11 we try to take a special treat, usually cookies that he "helps" bake, to whichever house would respond to us if God forbid there was an emergency. We'll be doing that again today and then going downtown for a memorial.
