bachelorette theme party -- deal or no deal?

my best friend is getting married at the end of october and i'm planning her bachelorette party for a bit earlier in the month. we're renting a limo to take us on a bar crawl & dinner in manhattan. since the party is so close to halloween, we were toying with the idea of going with a halloween theme and wearing cute costumes. i'm not concerned with us looking weird for wearing costumes before halloween, because EVERY weekend in NYC during october is basically halloween.
is this a cute or tacky idea? i personally would love it, but it's not really *my* party. halloween happens once a year but my friend will (hopefully) only have one bachelorette party!
if you were getting married around halloween, would you enjoy a themed party or would you prefer something more traditional? i'm going to drop a hint to the bride to see how she reacts.

I personally hate Halloween so I wouldn't be planning a wedding around Halloween
However, I would think that someone planning a wedding around Halloween, wouldn't be surprised that a Halloween themed bachelorette party would come up. I mean, why else would you plan a wedding around Halloween?0 -

wellllll she's marrying a man from belgium and his US visa application didn't get processed as soon as they were hoping. basically late october was the only time they could book a venue and get everything ready before they both move to belgium because he can't legally live in america. she was actually surprised when we informed her that her wedding is the weekend before halloween.
my parents also got married on halloween but they didn't have a theme -- the 80s were scary enough!0 -

LOL, I got nothing. Good luck:)0 -
thanks anyway! i figured most bachelorette parties involve getting drunk and trashy, and since the majority of my friends are in good shape, i thought it would be an excellent excuse to wear those skanky little halloween costumes that they have in the stores.0

Sounds like the costumes are a simple add-on to a bar crawl and a nice limo. Spend the money on the limo, buy something simple and inexpensive for the costumes like some crazy hats, etc. If the bride dislikes the idea of the costumes it doesn't have to be a big deal because you didn't spend much on them. They can stay in the limo, you can enjoy your pub crawl.
And maybe after a pub or two the costumes will start getting worn anyway.0 -

that's a great idea. maybe i can get a bunch of animal ears and tails, that way people don't have to buy costumes but can still participate if they want to dress up. after a bar or two, you're right, people will definitely be into the idea. the bride already bought a skimpy white dress -- we were thinking of providing her with angel wings or something like that.0 -
A few years back we did a bachelorette party around halloween and had the bride dress as a "good witch" in white and the rest of us dressed as "bad witches" in black. People took it as far as they wanted too with their own costumes - one was in a full on corset and hot pants! It was fun and we got some cute pics.0

another great idea! we were thinking of getting angel wings for the bride but good witch/bad witch sounds fun also. did the bride enjoy it?0 -
Why not ask the bride what she thinks about it - unless it's supposed to be a surprise. Every bride I've known gave the guideline about what she does/doesn't want to do.
As for me - I wouldn't want it. Although as the bride-to-be I did wear the little get-up flaunting that I was guest of honor.0 -

it's supposed to be a surprise but i think if i phrase it delicately enough i can ask about the costumes/theme without giving the whole thing away. she's pretty open-minded so i don't think she'll hate the idea, but i definitely want to get feedback from the other bridesmaids as well as other people that have been involved with bachelorette parties. this is my first time planning or attending one.0 -
Unless she specifically requested it be kept secret from her, then I would just ask her if she likes the idea. Personally, I love it! But I absolutely adore Halloween, so..... :-) Good luck, have fun!0
