You should try to get your calories between BMR and TDEE if you want to go that route.

Fit2Fatradio.com has the calculators. If u need more guidance check out the thread In Place of a Road Map, explains the whole thing. Just started myself at the higher cals, fingers crossed it will work!

    Good luck!!

You can do it within the site by going to this page and pressing calculate.

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/tools/bmr-calculator

This will give you your BMR (how much your body uses to keep ticking)

To work out TDEE (how much you need to function depending on your activity level) its a simple multiplier of your BMR.
    Sedentary - 1.2
    Lightly Active - 1.375
    Moderately Active - 1.55
    Very Active - 1.725
    Extremely Active - 1.9

    Here's an example with me:

    5.7" / 27 / 148lbs = BMR 1605

So depending on how active I am I should have approx if I wanted to maintain my current weight.
    Sedentary ~1900
    Light active ~2200
    Moderate ~2500

To lose weight you need to be in a deficit of your TDEE. My current net is set at 1200, so that's 500 cal less than I need to live a sedentary lifestyle.
