Running + Bursitis problems

I frequently try to begin running, but what happens is I'll develop hip bursitis almost immediately.

I used to run frequently when I played soccer in high school - no bursitis problems. Then I tore my meniscus, had a weird recovery, and ever since then, I can't run without all my joints hurting but especially my hips.

I'm 24 years old, and I really want to like running, but last time I got hip bursitis, I was limping for 2 months and had to go to the physical therapist for 3 months.

Do I have any hope or should I stick to my elliptical?

Just try to find other options beside running.

Have you been able to do similar motions w/o pain? Like the elliptical or stair stepper.....
  • Yeah, that's why I bought an elliptical. I like the elliptical and have no pain with it. I just get jealous of all my friends who do 5Ks and talk about the "running high" etc. etc. which I don't quite get that same thrill on the elliptical. It's not a terrible option by any means, I just didn't know if anyone else had this problem and found a way to avoid it.

I recently suffered with this and was out for 7 weeks.. I saw a Dr. then a sports dr. did all the stretches they told me to and nothing was working! I went to a chiropractor and no joke I was running in one week and within a few weeks I was back to 30 miles. My hips were out of alignment and it was causing issues. Maybe this would work for you.
