calories go down as you loose weight automatically?

I just started this a couple of weeks ago. Just wondering if MFP automatically changes the calories we're supposed to eat as we enter lower weights.

Thanks!

No. a common consensus seems to be that you should re-calculate every 5 lbs lost or so.

Mfp will let you know every 10lb to recalulate
  • iMFP changed my calories after I lost 10 pounds, but hasn't changed them since (I'm down 25 now). I'm guessing I'm supposed to just keep them the same and wait for MFP to change them, but now I'm going to look into it and see if it should've been lowered again.

After every 10lbs I lose, MFP sends a little note after I enter my weight for weigh-in; saying I should recalculate. You just go your fitness profile and click update and that's all :)

Apparently MFP does it for every 10lbs since you set/changed a goal. If you have gone in and changed anything MFP starts counting 10 lbs from that point. I had lost 14 before it told me to recalibrate because I had changed a few things 4 lbs in.

MFP seems a little hit and miss at this from my experience. I think it's supposed to prompt you to recalculate every 10lb, but for me it didn't do that every time at the 10lb mark. So, when I dropped 10 if it didn't prompt me, I'd do it myself. Really not that hard to remember.

One sure fire way to make sure your goals are correct and the calculations are accurate is to weigh-in once per week and recalculate after you have entered your weight. For example, I weigh-in on Saturday and enter the weight and do the recalculation at the same time. I do it first thing in the morning and then the rest of the day is open for our family to go and enjoy. Swimming with the wife and son this weekend. 65 pounds in the last 70 days has created a real boost in how much I can do.

I believe it will not go below 1200 calories even though it keeps asking me if I want to recalculate when I was already at 1200 calories.

Right. If you changed anything in your settings or are using "custom goals", you probably will have to go in and hit the recalculate button yourself.

MFP will not recommend fewer than 1200 calories per day for women or 1500 for men because it is extremely difficult to get full nutrition below those targets.
