Eat your Breakfast!!!!

Not sure if someone already said this but here's a little something I learned while in the military.. We hear this all the time but Do you know why breakfast is the most important meal of the day?!?!
it's because your metabolism slows down while you're sleeping.. and even when we wake up our bodies don't actually know we're awake until we bite into something to kick start our metabolism..
So if you go all day without eating or eating until noon.. your body is gonna be all confused and out of wack.

Here's a start. Become informed.

I don't know if breakfast is specifically good for you, but I do believe that a minimum 12 hour fast from the time you stop eating the evening before to the time you eat something the next day is good for you. So if you stop eating at midnight and you eat again at noon, that works. You can call that breakfast or whatever you want.0

Yes. I'm neutral on the whole eating breakfast thing. I don't know the exact science behind it or anything but after doing some research on intermittent fasting and it's benefits, I am not so sure that one has to eat breakfast everyday. Personally, I prefer waiting until I'm hungry which is usually closer to noon and it does not cause me to overeat later on in the day or anything.0 -
HAHAHAHHAHAH!
I only eat breakfast for the peanut butter chocolate chip oatmeal I have every morning.0 -
I don't eat till dinner...is that bad?
Oh and I'm active duty....I've missed this memo.0 -
Eating breakfast or not is a preferance and has no impact on metabolism.
Breakfast the most important meal of the day??? Who said that? Kellogg?0 -
Oh this will be Fun!!
On a side note I eat a Big Breakfast but that is just because of personal preference and the fact I workout in the A.M. but this truly is a myth in and of itself..... Best of Luck....0 -

I was in the military for 12 years, it's lucky I never heard this nonsense though, since nearly half of the time was spent on night shift.0

Agreed. I usually wait until I'm hungry. I go through stages where I can eat breakfast and feel full all day, and others where I'd rather wait until lunch because breakfast makes me overeat. :P Just so happen to be comfortable with brekky now; three weeks ago, I didn't eat it.0 -

So, if eating breakfast is so good for you why the *&%$ did I gain 15 pounds during basic.....oh yeah BREAKFAST!!!!!!!!0

I love breakfast, but I'm indescriminate as to when I eat it . . . I don't really understand why people get all bent out of shape over it. My hubs and I have had all out battles on the topic as he insists that his issue is that he doesn't eat breakfast and then continues to eat late into the night, and I keep telling him that has nothing to do with it, the fact is he eats like ****. He starts in on the bro-tabolism and I call bs and he gets all bent out of shape. It's hard to cure people of long term brainwashing.0

THIS ^^
I bet someone logged into her account and posted this as a joke...so when she logs in from work she would come online to 9 pages of "Way to promote broscience" and "lolercoster" and "Trollolol" and pictures of the Pirate decline being caused by global warming, and of antelopes enjoying a bowl of popcorn!0 -
There are so many old myths about metabolism here.
You don't need to start your metabolism up in your morning, you don't have to eat frequently to keep it up, and it doesn't just stop working if you eat too little (although I do not reckomend eating too little, but that's because of other health reasons). Our bodies are NOT that weak, our metabolism functions perfecly well without us having to do all these things to keep it in check. People saying otherwise are just basing their ideas on OLD theories and myths, but no wonder really, since all the magazines and tv-shows keep repeating it, and telling it as the truth, even when countless research proves them wrong.
Sigh...0 -
I'm waiting for someone to post the broscience picture.0

and it doesn't just stop working if you eat too little
While I agree that it doesnt STOP working when eatting too little, it does slow down. I just want to make sure we clarify that.
And also to clarify "too little" is dependant on your size...doesnt have to be that magic 1200 number everyone keeps talking about.0 -

Ok, so your theory on this is complete BS.
That being said, I am a member of the Weight Control Registry, and out of people that have lost and then successfully maintained a significant weight loss, the VAST majority of them eat breakfast.
SO, there is a positive link between being successful and eating breakfast, but not for the reasons cited.

I agree! (as long as you have breakfast sometime before bedtime).0

here is the thing, I remain neutral. I sometimes eat breakfast (only when the hunger pangs kick in and water is no help) but most of the time, I don't eat breakfast until noon, and even then i count it as "lunch".

There've been a lot of studies in the UK, especially on school kids. The kids who ate a healthy breakfast before the morning's lessons had better concentration, better ability to solve problems and more energy throughout the morning. The kids who didn't were generally less engaged, took longer to solve problems and were lethargic. THAT IS WHY BREAKFAST IS GOOD FOR YOU! Without it your energy levels will peak and trough throughout the day.
This follows through into every day life. If you eat dinner at 8pm, by 11am the next day, your body does not have the right fuel to function properly. Why on earth would you go 13-14 hours+ without eating?!
Oh, and the clue's in the name - Breakfast: Breaking the 'fast' from not eating in the night.0 -
I agree! (as long as you have breakfast sometime before bedtime).
I like to eat my breakfast at about 6.30pm a few times a week.0
