Video system?

I really wanted a gym membership, but I just don't think that'll work due to my schedule and the cost of the more available gym. I am also not sure about getting a piece of equipment since I only have about $500 to spend on something fitness related.

So, what would you suggest I buy? Some video weight loss/fitness system? I am already motivated to exercise, so I wouldn't need any "jumpstart" type things.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I can't recommend anything in particularly, because different people like different things. In my case, I don't particularly care for gyms, and I like to walk, so that is what I have been doing. Except now that the weather is cold, I have had to do my walking indoors at the mall, which can be expensive exercise if you don't stay out of the stores when you are through!!

What I can recommend is that you try out anything you are considering, BEFORE you buy. I recently saw a post on here where someone got a Wii and didn't care for it at all. This is contrary to all the positive comments one sees about it. The biggest reason I haven't moved in that direction is that if I tried do do anything with the Wii, I would have to lock up my three dogs, so they couldn't "help" :noway: me with my exercise.

Good luck with whatever you decide, and Merry Christmas.:flowerforyou:
  • If you are considering the Wii, I have it and although the EA Sports Active is a good workout, I would say its more for strength training than cardio. I get very little cardio from the Wii and rely on the Elliptical for that. As the previous person said, try something out before you spend any money purchasing it.

    Beachbody.com!
They have tons of different weight loss programs for those who want to lose weight, build muscle, etc... They range from beginner to advanced.

    Good luck!

Best interactive video system is my Wii! It is a lot of fun, and the majority of my weight loss has come from it. It's about the same price as a gym membership, and there's plenty of fitness games on the market to help keep you interested & your workouts varied.

Another vote for the Wii... I got the Wii Fit Plus in November, and I love it. My 6 year old uses it even more than I do! We've had the regular Wii since last Christmas, and I thought it was just o.k. But I love the Wii Fit Plus. Would do it more often if I didn't have to compete with my daughter.

I also vote for the Wii. Not only are their a lot of fitness games for it, but most of the games cause you to be more interactive than any other gaming system. Yes, with a gym membership or beachbody.com DVD's you can lose a lot of weight, but none of those are also available for gatherings. There are many games available to play with you and your friends or family and you would still be interactive.

What's the best as far as Beachbody systems go...P90X, Chalean Extreme, Insanity, etc. for losing these last 25 pounds and getting long/lean muscles?

This is kind of off the subject of the video systems, but I saw you said you only have $500 to spend. Maybe check out craigslist.org for fitness equipment if you are seriously wanting one. I got a nordic track treadmill for $200 last month. Granted it's older (no tv or ifit or anything like that), but it works great. It has 9 different programs and an incline, a wide belt and can go fast (up to 12 miles per hour I think). But anyways, just wanted to put that out there, you never know you might come across a great deal!

Thanks! I've been casually looking at CL. There's also a used fitness store about 25 minutes from my house that I plan on looking at also.
