I have to respectfully disagree....that life is a diet, I mean. The problem comes in when you TREAT it as a diet. Its not...its for life. And when you get to your goal, you have to play with your numbers until you find the right amount of calories and exercise that makes you maintain. You cant go back to eating the way you did...or even close to it. It IS for life....but its not a diet. You will find the happy medium. :)

I truly hope you can. I failed and although I didnt gain all my weight back, I ganed 25 this past school year. I am on day 3 but I am hopeful as I think the beck diet solution book is a great way to retrain your brain and not sabetoge yourself. At least that is how I am going about it. Havent started a particular diet yet since life is a diet. Trying to make good choices.

    I agree. It's a lifestyle change, not a diet.

What I am learning is that the same skill and discipline that you used to lose the weight is also required to maintain the weight loss. Though your calories increase you still have to have discipline on how much you eat and what you eat and how much you exercise. I am in maintenance and while I am eating much more "fun" foods that I enjoy, I'm also still logging my food and exercise to make sure I am in the right range.

    So I wouldn't call this a diet...more like a lifestyle change.

I agree. To me "diet" sort of implies a conscious plan with limitations, and I believe that is necessary when maintaining (at least for me). I know there are people who maintain a healthy weight naturally and don't struggle with how much or what they should be eating -- my new goal is to be like that, but in the meantime, I have to watch myself pretty closely. Still prefer it to the alternative though.

No, I think it goes "I'm gonna diet all night long . . . " Inspiring stuff.

I agree with you! May be it isn't a diet for the sensible ones! I went on vacation for 3 weeks and put on 4lbs in spite of regular exercise. It has taken me 3 weeks to get it off, with DIET and Exercise! If I ate normally, I am positive I'll start gaining again. But this time I am determined to get on the wagon as soon as I fall off. Then there is my husband who burns the calories by just breathing out! LOL!

I've lost 22 pounds and so far I'm doing pretty good maintaining. I have gained a pound or two here and there but I find it easy to get it right back off. I weigh myself everyday, which I have always done because I like to keep on top of it before it could crawl back up. I think what helps me is I could probably eat higher than I do but instead I eat around 1500 and I will still lose a little bit like .2 here and there during the week so what I do now is if I get below my 125 goal weight I give myself an extra 100 calories the next day to gain it back and so far this is working for me. On occasions i will have a big cheat day and gain a pound or 2 but like I said I can usually get it off pretty easy especially now that I have a treadmill at home.
