Hand Swelling and Rings

I originally hoped that this would become less of an issue as I got fitter, but it still happens more than a year after starting a frequent cardio routine - my hands swell when I run (any intense exercise, but running especially).
Since getting engaged, I am wearing a ring on a regular basis for the first time in years, and I was looking to see if anyone had some solutions for keeping track of your rings while you run. I can't always go home before a workout, and I hate the idea of leaving the ring in my car or in a gym locker.
I ordered a "charm holder pendant" from a jewelry store that I will be able to clip my ring into on a necklace, but was wondering if anyone else had a tried and true method for not losing jewelry in a workout. Any suggestions?

I have the same issue. Sometimes drinking a lot of water helps but on a really long run you can bet that they will be snug ('cause they are pretty lose right now) by the time that I'm done.0

If you can find them anymore, I used to use a big old fashioned diaper pin to pin my house keys to my shirt or swimsuit when I was being active. It would work for rings too. Not sure I would trust the safety pins one buys today- not the same quality at all.0

I would feel a whole lot safer with my ring on a swollen finger than in some locket that could pop open when I wasn't looking. Perhaps if you feel the need to take it off you should put the ring directly on the chain. Ultimately, I think the ring would be better off hidden in your car or locked up with your purse than hanging from your neck.0

I put mine on my keyring (or rather, my carabiner thing). But I don't really care if it gets scratched up.0

don't take the ring off even if your finger swells... wear gloves designed for lifting ( finger tips open ) to help grip when you use machines or free weights or even cardio machines...I agree with others who suggested drinking more water ..congrats!!LOL
watch sports drinks loaded with sodium0 -
i would get a necklace and put it on there0

I just leave my ring on.0

don't wear it.
I don't wear my wedding ring or anything else on my hands or arms when working out.
I have hand swelling as well, but I wouldn't wear it even if I didn't.0 -
I never wear any jewelry/accessories but my HRM watch when I workout my regular watch, both rings, and my necklace are off 100% of the time when I workout. I hate the feeling of having anything like that on when I'm being running or lifting and getting sweaty. I've just started coaching a coworker through C25K and we head to the track directly after work. I just loop everything together and leave it in my car.0

i have to wear a compression glove on the same hand i wear a ring (health reasons) and it gives no problems with swelling0

I don't think I'd trust a pendant holder thing. I'd be more likely to just put it on a necklace chain and wear that during exercise. My hands swell like crazy when I work out too but I work out at home these days so I can just leave it on my dresser. When I used to go to the gym I locked it in my car in a hidden location.0

When I'm lifting my wedding ring pinches my finger, so I loop it through the band of my watch.0

I had to do that a couple of weeks ago for a different reason. I made the mistake of forgetting to take my rings off before having a go at the batting cages and still have the two little blood blisters under the skin on my left ring finger where it pinched after making contact with the ball. But I ended up looping my watch band through them so there wasn't any risk of falling out of my pocket.0 -
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions! I'm sure I'll find a permanent routine soon, and the feedback helps.0

I don't have any tips about the the rings but I do about the swelling
Try having a lymphatic drainage treatment. You may just have a few minor restrictions or such
It very light and relaxing and non intrusive .. Sort of just like a very light massage but using specific rhythms0 -
I usually take my rings (all jewelry) off when I get home every day ~ this way I know where they are & I don't have to worry about losing them Good luck on what ever you figure out0

I either leave my rings in my bathroom at home when I go to the gym or I put them in my purse and keep it in a locker.0

I worked in a operating room til last october and we weren't allowed to wear any jewelry. Most of us females would take a safety pin and hook it to the inside of our bras, hoping that if it came undone at least we'd feel it in there. This comes in handy while running too.....my hands also swell depending on how long I'm out there and the weather. Don't feel comfortable leaving them in the car and I forget most of the time to take them off before leaving.0

this happens to me at times too, especially on hot days. what's helped is making sure to keep my hands at chest level. also every now and then flexing my fingers and balling them into a fist.
you also might want to make sure you dont have high blood pressure either since that can have an effect0
