Walk to End Alzheimer's

The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
Every day when I come to work - I see people who have been personally touched by Alzheimer's. It is a blessing for me to work with residents and their loved ones in a role where I can support them through the pains and the joys that are associated with this disease. I never expected when I started as a social worker over 16 years ago - that I would find myself working in a long term care... but I love working at Benefis Senior Services and our Residents with Alzheimer's are some my favorite people!
Because of that - I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the 2012 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
Many communities are hosting these walks - what a great way to get fit and help bring awareness to a disease that is both heartbreaking and yet produces moments that are heart warming. Check out to see if there is a walk planned in your community at: http://act.alz.org/site/PageServer?pagename=walk_about&eventid=1518. If there isn't a walk in your community - then sign up to be a Virtual Walker and join my community as we Walk to End Alzheimer's on September 16, 2012.
Can't make a walk - but still wish to support a wonderful cause?!? Then - please consider making a donation to support a walker. My goal was to be a Champion for the Cause - to lead my organization and community - because this disease touches my life daily... you can make a donation to support me on my page at: http://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk/MT-Montana?px=6920522&pg=personal&fr_id=1518. Donations will be accepted through September 15 to support me - or look for a more local team/walker in your area and support them!
I'm not one to typically ask support from others... I am almost always the one offering and giving it. But this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart - and I know how much even $5 can make a difference.
Don't forget those who have forgotten... they often still teach us the greatest of lessons!
Thanks in advance to anyone who donates - and please post here if you are participating in a Walk to End Alzheimer's!! I'm walking in honor of the many residents I work with or have worked with - who taught me the value of even one moment of recognition. I'm walking in honor of the families - who continue to visit their loved one even when their loved one doesn't know who they are. I'm walking in honor of our staff - who treat our residents with the respect and dignity they have earned and deserve, knowing that they are people who have so much to give and still want love, value and purpose. I'm walking for my family - as we watch members start to "simply forget" and desperately do brain puzzles to keep their mind strong. I'm walking for all of them... and I'm walking for me! If you can't walk with me - please consider donating. It absolutely makes a difference!
