When is the best time to work out during the day?

Hi Guys,

Currently I work out first thing in the morning before I have eaten anything, but I was just wondering if this was the most effective time of the day to work out (if there is one!) and if so, why? As well as trying to eat clean and work out, i'm really trying to make an effort to find out the mechanics behind everything so that I can understand it a bit better! So it would be great if someone who knows there stuff help me out with this one as I really want to make sure I am making the most of the time I put into working out, even if it means changing the time of day I do it!

Thanks in advance guys!

    It doesn't matter.

Do it whenever it fits into your daily routine.

When you can fit it in. Just move. I have a friend who dont really excerise but the never sit down either. Just when you do find at least an hour of excercise and when you can contrate and not think of something you need to be doing. focus on the your body, mind, and dicipline. I find it better to find time for ME than trying to follow excercise and think of a grocery list or what my kid is doing. then you not concentrating on the muscles your using to move.

FIND TIME FOR YOU AND YOU ALONE... not you and your homework, car, friends, PHONE (my gym your not allowed cell phones) , etc.

There is some research into "fasted cardio" ie working out on an empty stomach, but it tends to be be really fit athletic types that this makes a difference for.

Work out whenever you're most likely to stick at it. First thing in the morning is great (though I find if I'm lifting weights I really need to have eaten something first or I get dizzy)

check out the following sites for great information-

    leangains.com

    google Lyle McDonald or bodyrecomposition

the best time to work out is the time you can be most consistent with. Dont get locked into a certain time. If you pick mornings and then something comes up, dont just skip...work out when you can.

Thanks for all your tips guys, I do find working out in the morning the easiest because I can just get it out of the way and then focus on the rest of the day! And I always feel better throughout the day when I have worked out in the mornings! I have more energy and feel more slim! I tend to eat more healthier too!! haha

watched an interesting video yesterday that claims scientific studies say that the best time is first thing in the morning before you take in more callories. after fasting for a few hours. plus it sets the tempo for your body for the rest of the day and has that burn kicked in.

Another vote for whenever you can fit it in, with a few caveats.

I wouldn't work out immediately after a large meal, because I don't like vomiting. Give yourself 2 hours after a large meal.

And I don't work out within 3 hours of bedtime because it throws my sleep schedule off.

Sounds like morning workouts are working for you, so don't change a thing.

I actually work out twice a day - I do 30 mins. on my treadmill at home first thing in the morning and then I go to the gym after work, do another 20 mins. of cardio and strength training. I find the morning workout gives me energy and helps me start my day feeling healthy and strong.
