Away for work - Take-out Help!

I'm going away tomorrow for a weekend-long meeting with work. I'll be 3.5 hours from home, and I'll have to eat out.
I've been here at MFP for 2 weeks, lost 10 pounds and had 1 splurge that I quickly recovered from, and I REALLY don't want to screw things up now.

Tomorrow, we're having a staff lunch at a bar. I had to choose between a 9" pizza and fish and chips. I ordered the pizza, hawaiian with no pepperoni and iced lemon water to drink.

Seeing as the lunch is at 1, I may be having a small supper. I'm not a lover of salads, but may have to suck it up and try to like them.

The next day, we'll have breakfast (buffet style) at the hotel, then lunch, I can eat in the restaurant, or get something myself (I'm thinking a sub from Subway). Supper will be a banquet-style supper.

Sunday, the buffet breakfast, then lunch again, and then I get to go home..

I'm looking for your tried-and-true choices that you make when you are on the road? Because I'll be there more than a day, I shouldn't have a problem with water, and I can juice a lemon before I go so I can flush out the salt from the restaurant food.

Help!! :)

I travel for work and when meals are catered, you just have to deal with what you are given. I load up on the vegetable sides and take smaller quantities of the more caloric stuff, like sides that involve potato or rice or meat/seafood main dishes. If I can't avoid fried stuff, say the fish and chips, I will only eat some breading and pick some fish out of the batter if necessary.

Also, if you have one meal where you know you blew it, don't sweat it. One meal won't kill your progress, I promise!
  • The hardest thing will probably be the breakfast buffet, those things are full of carbs and fat. Just try to stick to fresh fruit and some kind of whole grain cereal...and watch the portions! Subway is good, but its suprisingly easy to go overboard, especially in sodium. Depending on what you get (I recommend the turkey or chicken breast) you can consume your entire days worth of sodium in 1-6 inch! I agree with the above post...if you splurge on a meal dont stress about it, its not going to ruin your progress!

    Thanks for replying!

I agree about the buffet.. there's usually scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes, toast, hash browns, bacon... eek!!

I will be around the corner from a grocery store, so I may grab something there and take it to the room for breakfast (cereal/fruit/yogurt).. I know I'll be picking up evening snacks there!

I just checked the Subway website for their nutritional facts. Wow!!

I am not sure what your breakfast buffet will entail, but when traveling for work I usually stay at Hampton Inns which provide breakfast. They offer the usual meats, pastries, etc. but also have hard boiled eggs, fruit, and that kind of stuff making it easy to make good choices so long as I resist the bacon. ;) Definitely survey the buffets before loading up your plate and make a little plan of action in your head!
