Need some advice

I need to loose 60-80 pounds by the end of the year for medical reasons so I can have a procedure done. Can anyone advice the best way to do that without starving myself???? I've been doing cardio regularly and losing weight fast but once I started weight training, I can see my body change but nothing on the scale for 5 weeks now, should I incorporate weight training so early into the weight loss process or should I do cardio to see a faster drop then when closer to a lower weight add in the weight training? What is going to best the thing to do health wise and safely.

I need specific guidance, if you need more info just ask.

Thanks for the help

Try out the Paleo diet for a while. I use to do that but it's HARD. All you eat is meat, veggies, fruits and sometimes nuts... plus side is you don't have to count anything and all you do is eat (at least that's how I did it.)

    Hope that helps :)

Research suggests that Atkins (very low carbs) gives you very fast, fairly healthy weight loss. Paleo would work too.

It is not sustainable and has other negative health outcomes. For that reason carbs around 40% have the best long term results. But if you need to take a lot of weight off that fast, very low carbs may be your best bet. You're obviously seeing a doctor so get advice.

Exercise is wonderful in lots of ways but won't give you the weight loss you need.

I am gonna go ahead and say that really isn't possible. You have about 15 weeks and even if you do manage to lose 2 lbs a week (which isn't that common) you might be able to pull off 30.. maybe 40-45 if you have a lot of water weight. The biggest suggestion is to eat lean whole foods (no prepackaged foods), plenty of water, exercise and have a moderate deficit (probably 30% below TDEE) as well as a high protein, moderate carb and fat diet. This will help you lose fat, but help maintain your muscle and help prevent your metabolism from slowing down.

When exactly is this procedure? You say the end of the year...that gives you 15 Weeks. if you push yourself and stay 100% focused, you can do it. East right, and bust your *kitten* exercising.

Specifics - Eat all of your calories. workout 6 days a week. 3 cardio, 3 weight training.

The major keys you need: MENTAL FOCUS and taking action.

I am not aware of anything wrong with the paleo diet, other than it can be hard to follow, but if you are trying to lose weight, you still need to count calories to make sure you are in a deficit.

I disagree that it isnt sustainable and also disagree that 40% carbs have the best long term results.

    There are very few absolutes.

The only absolutes I am aware of are you need a caloric deficit to lose weight and that your body needs proteins and fat to survive.

Hey Nicole - it is a lot but it is only 4lb a week - less than 2kg - I would keep up the cardio - burns more calories and gets heart rate higher - whatever diet you follow - log your calories - make sure you have a deficit every day between calories in and calories out.

Theoretically, about 3500 calories equals one pound of body weight. This means that you'd have to take in 3500 fewer calories or burn off 3500 more calories than you usually do, over a period of time, to lose one pound. Keep in mind, this is in theory; what happens in the real world can be very different.

Often, as we eat less, our bodies expend calories at a slower rate (that is, our metabolism decreases). But if you consume 500 calories less and exercise 500 calories more - that is 1000 calories deficit per day. Making for a 2lb weight loss per week. The higher your current weight the more you can lose more quickly.

While simple math might suggest then that if you could double the above figures you could lose the 4lb a week, more realistic and lasting weight change happens gradually. Be careful, if you are cutting back and remember that skipping meals can actually have a negative impact on weight management. To keep your metabolism speeding along, consider having 4 or 5 smaller meals and snacks throughout the day. In addition to providing consistent energy and maintaining your metabolism, you may be more likely to resist those "snack attacks" that happen with extreme hunger. Finally, an important factor in keeping your metabolism moving is participating in regular exercise, which is good for you regardless. Weight training is good but it does not alone give you the calorie burn that moving whatever weight (mass) you have over some distance (since gravity stays constant here on Earth) in an amount of time. Old fashioned physics!

But you need to eat and log it all as well as burn those calories - don't skimp on either - and I could certainly go over my cal allowance on a paleo diet if I didn't log it all.
