Lower Back Pain

I've started running on a www.nikeplus.com program and working out with the EA Active for Wii and now I'm experiencing some lower back pain. I'm not sure what did it but its bothering me. Is this normal when starting new activity (I used to just do the Wii Fit)? Should I just work through it or take some time off? I'd hate to give up and lose the awsome groove I'm in.

When I first started working out with my trainer in July my lower back would tighten up and I would have some pain. My core was not strong at all. We worked on getting my core strong and I can do different exercises I couldn't do before.0

Pain is your bodies way of telling you that something is wrong. So you don't want to simply ignore it. It may be that you aren't stretching well enough before & after working out. Look online for back stretches & see if that helps. My favorite lower back stretch is where you stand feet more than shoulder-width apart (no wider than is comfortable), cross arms together in front of chest, then bend over & let your arms/neck hang loosely. You'll feel it in back & legs. You can also release arms & grab your right ankle/lower leg with both hands then do left side. If stretching doesn't help then you should consult a doctor as it could be a strained/pulled muscle which can worsen.0

I would recommend looking up a really good chiropractor in your area. I thought they were quacks until I started seeing one shortly after I started working out. There have been a number of times when I've been in pain, or something is not moving right. I call my chiro, he goes *pop, pop* and I don't hurt there anymore... EVER! It's pretty amazing.
Mine also practices internal medicine, and encouraged me to change my diet, and that has helped a lot too.0 -
It is important to work on the core. It can be done everyday and it is not uncommon to have problems with just starting. Take things a little slower if you need to but my doctor (a triathlete) said you don't have to stop. I purchased a stability ball and use that for core exercises and sit on it when I am playing games/watching tv.
Hope you feel better soon.0
