Peanut butter - weigh or measure??

Peanut butter is something I love, but I am VERY careful when measuring - leveling off the tablespoon. This morning I decided to weigh 1 T. on the food scale. According to the label 1 T. is 16 g. Mine weighed in at 24. I checked a couple of other items and my scale seemed accurate.
Peanut butter is something I definitely don't want to overdo. Anyone else weigh it instead of measuring? I am wishing I hadn't and could go on blissfully eating my 1 T.

i had the exact same experience this morning, not sure what made me weigh it vs. using the Tbsp i usually grab.
as much as i'd like to keep using the Tbsp, i'll probably go by the weight now since it's such a calorie dense food, and because i can never limit myself to just one Tbsp anyway0 -
I always weigh my food.0

Funny because when I do this my Tablespoon is usually only 10g...Oh well. I got away from weighing because it got obsessive for me and now I just measure it.0

I weigh almost everything, except for items for which it just seems to make more sense to use measuring spoons - liquids, things that spread, etc. I guess I will start weighing those types of things if they are particularly calorie dense.0

Weigh. Measuring solids in something better suited for liquids gets dicey.0

I weigh everything.0

I always weigh peanut butter. I would feel cheated if I left some in the measuring spoon. I had 4 Tbs today. I just put the tortilla on a scale, pushed the tare button to zero the scale, and added peanut butter till it weighed the right amount.
... and then ate it of course. Yummy.0 -
This is a good point.. I always use a tablespoon and estimate. I haven't had issues yet with my weight loss so I never considered changing it up.
I'm going to measure my regular "tablespoon" later and see how different it is.0 -
Thanks for raising this. It had never occurred to me that there would be a difference and I would have said to measure. Now I'd say, weigh.
I need to buy a scale with a tare function (excludes the weight of the container).0
