I don't no if I'm posting this in the right place as I don't normally do posts but
I before starting my get fit lose weight campaign I was addicted to full fat coke was lovely. But since I've started I've tried to just drink water and tea, but is there any harm in drinking diet coke or Pepsi max or do they still have things in them a dieter should drink?
Thanks all

Well...I haven't stopped drinking my diet pepsi, BUT, I know it's not the healthiest thing to drink. I'm addicted and get horrible headaches when I don't drink at least 4 cans of pepsi. I know some people just really don't like drinking water. The way I think of it-It's better to drink my diet pepsi than be dehydrated.0

Drinking water is the best thing for you.. However, diet sodas don't do any harm weight wise.. You wouldn't gain anything, however it's bad to drink them because it releases insulin in your body, making you wanna crave sugar. If you know how to fight off the cravings, like I do then that's awesome. It was said that diet soda can link to vascular dementia such as a strokes. I would try and drink about one a day at first then do like 1 every other day etc. You don't have to stop completely just try to reduce the intake.0

This is just my 2 cents take it with a grain of salt:
It's not the best thing for you and you most likely should not have it every day but if it fits into your calories I don't see anything wrong with it! You may get more bloated and you will notice that but for once a week or less some soda will not derail your weight loss. I had birthday cake and a few cans of soda on Sunday and I still lost a pound this week. I was addicted to soda before though so I am careful to not drink it daily or I'll have to detox myself again and I really don't like to detox soda I am miserable when I do. Everything in moderation, if you can trust yourself to have one or two and that's it then do it if you think it will be an issue give yourself more time to get used to not having it before you try. Also, don't buy a case of soda you will drink the whole thing get a single serving of it. Good luck!0 -
depends how much you love your teeth.
The clean, fresh taste of coke (and all the other colas) is phosphoric acid so even without the sugar the cola-type drinks will damage the enamel. Other fizzy drinks contain citric acid and a tiny amount of carbonic acid from the carbon dioxide (i.e. the bubbles) dissolving in water.
If you do drink these then chew gum for 20 minutes afterwards to stimulate saliva flow which contains carbonate, phosphate and protein buffering systems which neutralise acids rather than leaving this to the enamel. DO NOT BRUSH YOUR TEETH - the acid dissolves the surface calcium and you then hit the tooth with a brush and abrasive toothpaste you will remove the softened surface enamel (irreplaceable tooth-surface loss).
Your dentist will call this "Acid Erosion" and it is a real problem among teenagers. Your dentist will also use this property of phosphoric acid if he or she has to repair a tooth by adhering the resin restoration to the enamel surface - but this is under controlled conditions - don't try this at home, kiddies.
Hope that helps (and hope that a brown, frothy liquid purveyor doesn't send the boys round to mug me)
AND on the plus side, the caffeine will give you a boost and enhance your exercise performance (and there must be some calorie burn value for chewing gum for 20 minutes)0 -
I miss Crystal Pepsi0

Weight wise, nope. Won't harm you. I wouldn't drink a ton of diet soda a day though... it has other health effects from other chemicals in it. I save my diet soda's for when I'm out and about and need something besides water because I don't feel like peeing when I'm at dinner, or a movie, or stuff like that lol.0

PS the caffeine deprivation is the cause of the headaches - these would stop after a few weeks - or you could just pig out on espressos0

That is the caffeine in them that gives you withdrawal headaches.0 -
Try to keep your soda (fake sugar or not) at a minimum. I drink 2 cans of diet soda a day. Having to have something "sweet" all the time is not a good thing. Flavored (unsweetened) sparkling water is another idea ... Klar Brunn Raspberry ..yum
The rest of the time I drink unsweetened tea & water. Try brewing your own iced tea. Flavored tea bags are yummy - just add a little sweetener .... then step the sweetener down bit by bit. I love iced tea without sugar ..... but it was an acquired taste.0 -
one thing people say about artificial sweeteners: while they have fewer calories than sugar, they have a similar effect on insulin levels, which in part controls hunger (so you get that sugar crash hungry feeling afterwards). I don't have data or a link to back this up, it's just something I have read often so you may want to look into it if you are interested to know.0

I sure hope not because my house goes through an ALARMING amount of Pepsi Max. Like I'm talking 3-4 cubes a week. For 3 of us.0

I liked everything about this post except that all of it is not true0 -
I have cut down to one per day. On the really, really stressful (or tired) days, I might have 2. I do not see any signs that this has hindered my weightloss. Some will say you must give them up but I believe in moderation is fine.0

On the whole, water works well for re-hydration
You can't buy fruit squashes in The States, can you? That's a concentrated fruit flavoured drink that you dilute with tap water, just to add a little interest to the flavour (and a mere about 5 calories per glass) - very refreshing.
You used to see the bottles of "Robinson's Barley Water" by the umpire's chair at Wimbledon - do they still have that franchise?0 -
I love my Pepsi Max & Dr. Pepper 10. Maybe it's just me, but I don't get cravings for sweets because I drink diet pop. When I first started getting healthy, the only change I made in the first week was to switch to diet pop & I lost 5 pounds. Drink what you want, but just do it in moderation. You won't be successful if you force yourself not to drink what you like.0

I have changed my eating habits by choosing lower calorie optioins; however, I REFUSE to give up my Pepsi & I am not talking about diet! I have chosen to limit the amount I have now, but I have my 24 oz bottle at work each day (sometimes more than a can or 2 more depending on the day) and then I drink water the rest of the night!0

One of the downsides of carbonated beverages is the sodium content. An occasional soda isn't going to hurt you, but an excess can certainly derail weight loss due to too much sodium. I actually quit drinking all forms of carbonated beverage this spring, even before I actively tried to lose weight. Today I had a Rockstar Zero Carb because I was absolutely dragging at work. Did the trick, but my sodaless streak is now history.0

There shouldn't be any issues assuming you continue to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated...
I'll add that Pepsi max tastes like **** in my opinion. I would recommend coke zero, in plain vanilla or cherry.0
