Weight loss cycles?

I am not sure what a good name for it would be, but for now I will call it a weight loss cycle. Over the past 2 months I have noticed a trend....I will lose weight quickly for 2 weeks (about 5 lbs a week) and then the next 2 weeks, nothing. I am not doing anything different than I am doing on the 2 weeks I lose. I have been on MFP since May, but I have only noticed this pattern since the beginning of August. Does anyone else experience this or have a thought as to why it may occur?

You often gain a lot of water weight in the week running up to your period - so it could be that?
But other than that, I think a lot of people have fluctuations - your weight is affected by a lot of factors (e.g. too much sodium, or not enough fibre etc).

Ive only lost about 30, and Ive been on forever, I eat the same as well, but it seems to depend on how much lifting im doing at the gym too... I'll have like 1-3 weeks of nothing, then drop drop drop... then it starts over, my last plateau was the longest....

I am thinking it has to do with my period, but I am not sure why all the sudden it is happening :grumble: Oh well, it's better than not losing the entire month!

I have the same trend. The week prior to my period I retain fluid, then a week later its gone and I lose some weight, then I stay the same for the next few weeks. Frustrating but at least there's a cause.

That's tough. Great job keeping with the weight loss though!

I also have been noticing a "cycle" of weightloss. pretty much since I got under 200lbs. I will be at a standstill for 2-3weeks and the loose 3-5lbs in a week. so I know what you're talking about....i think it does have something to do with my menstrual cycle and retaining water.....weird....but it's interesting to know my body better than I ever have before...meanwhile....keep fighting the good fight. the numbers still going in the right direction! but it does take strength....and a LOT of patience....I used to loose 3lbs almost every week. =P

Yep my sh*ts all over the place. But when I average it all out it works out nicely to about a 2.1 loss per week. Over the months . That's why I'll weigh in every 2 1/2 weeks & then record my weir at the end if every month

I do think I notice it more because I weigh myself everyday.

My weight loss definitely revolves around my period. No loss the week before (and I'm hungrier all week) and then stay the same during and then a "big loss" for the next 2 weeks. I end up netting about 4 pounds a month though and at this point I'll take it. I just have to remind myself on my 2 weeks of not losing that it will come and all of the things that I am doing will work soon enough. It is hard to work your butt off (literally and figuratively) and not see the number on the scale. It will come off though if you stay on track. Good luck!

Happens to me. Three or four weeks without a change, then a nice drop. Repeat. But the average loss when considered over a couple of months is right in line with the calorie deficit.

    Male, BTW.

Glad to know I am not the only one that weight myself daily.. lol..

Recently, I have been experiencing the same thing. The first several months, I was losing consistantly every week, but for the past 2-3 months, I love great amounts 2 weeks out of the month and the other 2 weeks there will be either no change or a slight gain of 1-2 pounds. Oddly though, one of my great weeks is always the week "of" my period. One thing I have definitely learned is that body chemistry has mind of it's own, cause when I think I have it figured out, something changes, and I have to try to change things around to kick it in the but again. But, I have lost 71 pounds in 27 weeks, which averages out to 2.6 pounds per week, so overall that is a good steady loss, it is just not happening consistantly every week.
