I use a Polar FT7. I like it a lot and have used it almost every workout since June 2011 (I've had to replace the battery in the watch and transmitter, but both were very cheap to do at BatteriesPlus). I paid around $80 for it, shipped, from Amazon.
The Polar FT4 is very similar but stores fewer workouts.
the FT40/FT60 are higher end models with a fit test, that allegedly calculate calories more accurately. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten one of those, but eh - the price difference didn't make it worth it for me
The only brand besides Polar I'd recommend would be a Garmin Forerunner, if you need the GPS capabilities as a runner.
FYI, Target has the FT4 on clearance right now, at least where I live, for $47 which is a great bargain. You might want to check your store if you live near one (end caps near sporting goods).0 -
Sorry, I don't have one yet, but I'm interested in the replies.
Also, an additional question...has anyone tried to get their insurance to pay for one? I thought perhaps they might to encourage weight loss. Hoping, at least!0 -
Thank You! I am taking the kids to see the new 3d nemo movie tomorrow and it is right in a target plaza!0

When I was shopping, I narrowed my choices down to either a Polar or a New Balance (came to this conclusion after researching posts here and feedback on Amazon). I turned to eBay since I'm on a tight budget, and put auctions for new items of each model on my watchlist. The New Balance N4 came up first, I got it for $26 - brand new in the box!
I've had it for over a year and it works great, but I may check my local Target for the clearance Polar - you never know when you might need new gear.0 -
Another vote for the Polar FT7. Or the FT4 or FT40 or whatever. Just go with Polar, is my point. I use the FT7. Edit: I paid about $99 for it.0

If you have a smartphone (android, iphone, blackberry) seriously look at a Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor. A smart phone app gives you more features then a watch can. Also alot of app's can integrate with the monitor for more accurate calorie burn.0

Love my Polar FT7. Spent about $100 on it. The FT4 is also nice (and cheaper)0
