What is there left to eat?

I have been dealing with a nutritionist .
He has told me to eat approx. 1700 cal. A day,
To limit fat.
To seriously limit sodium.
To seriously limit sugar.
To cut out processed food.
Stay away from canned food.

I have been thrown into a major depression.
What is there left to eat?
I have been told to live close to the vine,
to shop around the edges of the grocery store,
produce, deli, dairy, and dry goods.

I need a few recipes. Things that are easy to fix.
I am a vegetarian, but at this stage of the game it seems
Impossible to eat anything except cardboard.

I have been crying while going through the grocery store
and when passing restaurants.
Heck, I didn't even do anything over the holiday weekend
because a picnic Doesn't meet the rules.

I have been working out an average of 2 hours a day and am staying within my calorie range.
Some weeks I am not losing any weight. Even with all these darned rules.
I have lost a lot of weight over the past months, but it is painfully slow.

Please give me some suggestions. I sure would appreciate it.

Cyndi

Geesh, I would be depressed too. I eat a wide range of things and still lose. I agree that that is the healthiest way to eat, but it can get very unrealistic for many lifestyles. Hope someone can help you out and good luck!

It can be very overwhelming at the start, especially if you're trying to do it all at once, and it's very different from what you used to eat!

OK, you're a vegetarian, so lets start with veggies. Great food, you can eat as much of them as you like. Make up a big batch of vegetable soup with carrots, onions, squash, sweet potatoes. Flavour with chilis or herbs or garlic - experiment and see which you like best. I like to do this at the weekend, and then save it in single portion tubs. Freezes well.

Eggs are always good - an omelette makes a satisfying meal.

And beans will be a good source of protein - if you're avoiding them canned (which I admit are very handy) then go for packets of red lentils or chickpeas, and follow the instructions for soaking overnight.

    Pasta with tomato sauce.

    Stir-fry

    Quinoa.
