Five weeks projected weight

has anyone kept track of the "projected weight" from the diary? After I complete my entries for the day, it always says something along the lines of: "if you keep going this way, in 5 weeks you will weight ABC". I wonder if anyone has kept track and checked how accurate those predictions are....

They've never been accurate for me, honestly. I lose weight so much more slowly than what MFP projects for me. If it were correct, I'd be nearing my first goal weight by now. So I don't bother looking -- I just stick with what works for me and don't stress about the number.

I don't pay it too much attention, when I first started I did, but now I just like to look at it!! lol

Never on par for me. I' always 3-5# heavier no matter how well I eat and exercise. I wish we could turn it off.

    ^^This.

I think it is really just a generalized assumption based on "normal" weight loss rates. I don't think it takes into account the persons own specific circumstances such as plateaus etc. I wouldn't think too much on it.

  • I've been keeping track. Not officially. It may be accurate on paper. It's not accurate for me. Said I would be 182 pounds in 5 weeks in June. It's now September and nada.

I do. I always save it in the "notes" box. It's interesting for me, because when I go back and check it- it's been pretty accurate when I was really logging *every* bite. For me, if it isn't accurate, I either check if I've been honest with my logging, or I consider what else might be in play (totm/water wieght, muscle gain, etc).

p.s. I lost 12 kg on MFP last year, and then stopped using the site for about 6 months (luckily not gaining either :D ) When I decided I wanted to lose more weight, I reset my goal tracker and I started logging again. :D

That number changes daily, per MFP I should have lost ten pounds this summer - I don't put a lot of stock in that number, many days I don't even "complete" the diary for that day as I feel it is a waste as it has never been truly accurate or truthful.

The number is usually not accurate for me, but it is encouraging, for me anyway, to see that number. It reminds me of good things to come in time!

My first one was actually pretty accurate. IT said I would weigh 140 and I hit 139!

It's crap. I don't even know why it's there. Mine's been telling me that I'd be in the mid 120's for 2 months. I am still in the 130's. But I'm totally cool with it- I'm actually putting on weight in muscle. That's one thing that irks me- MFP doesn't give a *kitten* for weight training. I don't even waste my time entering it because it doesn't even calculate anything.
So screw the projected weight. I just look at how much I've lost and give myself a pat on the back.

You have to look at what it is.

MFP has your projected calorie use for the day.
MFP has your projected calorie intake for the day.
    MFP has your current weight.

So it can see today's deficit..

It then goes, If you had this exact same deficit for 5 weeks, you would weigh...._________

OF COURSE you dont get the exact same deficit.
and if your projected calories burned is off, or your intake is off, or your weight isnt current.. that number will be off.
  • I was about to post the same info. Thanks for explaining it clearly.
  • Thanks all.... Although I do like to look at the future and think I'll make that ABC weight by the 5 weeks, it was looking unrealistic... (unless I cut off an arm or a leg LOL )
