What to do when your weight gets stuck.

I have been on MFP for a month now and I have lost 5lbs just by couting calories, leaving behind soda, and fast food. I have gone from 270 to 265, but I have seemed to be stuck on the 265 for two weeks now. Any suggestions on what I can do to shake it up a little or is this normal. Maybe I just need to be patient. I have seen many post comments speaking to the effect of it being a journey and to be patient. I look forward to your responses.

I've been stuck for months despite sticking to calorie allowance and doing some exercise; I am 2 weeks into Jillian Michael's 30 day shred "Lose 20 pounds in 30 days!" and still the scales are not budging. So I feel for you. It's really hard losing weight, isn't it? However this site is a brilliant support network and I look forward to reading what others suggest xxx

Are you changing up your foods to keep your body from getting "used to" a routine. Eating the same thing every day can cause wt loss plateaus. So can, not eating enough. Are you eating enough of good food? I have learned soooooo much about food and nutriton over the last yr. I can also understand your frustration, b/c I do not lose wt. I am now eating clean 95+% of the time and execising hard. I've started Insanity about 1 1/2 wks ago. I've started back on my wt liftng also. My wt has not went down a smidgen. I've quit weighing myself, b/c I was becoming obsessed w/ what the scale said and w/ exercising... you are going to gain wt. I am by NO means an expert or even what I would call a nutrition guru. BUT, I have been where you have been- in despair and feeling like no matter what you do, it's not going to help. Keep on keeping on. Eat clean, low carbs, high protein and calorie deficit. You will see changes. Me too! LOL:) I need to listen to my own advice, huh? Good luck:)

2 weeks to a month really isn't SUPER weird...i just naturally even out for several weeks after every 10 pounds lost. The most successful way I found to break the stall was changing 100% of my routine--normally I do the treadmill/elliptical, but I bought a Groupon for 10 fitness classes and spent a month doing everything from spinning to yoga to strength training. It was very refreshing mentally and it made my weight loss restart.

Advise well taken. I have been very routine oriented with my food eating subway for lunch and breakfast and even the same sandwhich.....boring! I know. But I love food and its really easy for me to go off the deep end. I don't want to do that. I have tried Atkins successfully, but because I could not sustain it, I gain all the lost weight back. Devastating!
I know its only been a month, so I should not be hitting the panic button, but I saw a 5 lbs drop in two weeks after i started MFP and stopped drinking soda, as previously noted, so I thought the weight loss would continue. That is why I am a little concerned. I understand this is going to be a long journey.
So, I think I am not going to be weighing myself as often because it is depressing and just continue plugging away. Hope to get more feedback from others on this matter.

I get stuck at times, but I think somtimes it's my body readjusting to the new way of doing things, it would of course prefere to stick to the fat way:wink: but some things tha really helped me were learning portion control (4 oz of protein really is filling, with non-starchy fruits & vegs) and cutting out sugar as much as possible. Drink a big glass of water before and with every meal, it aids digestion & fills you up - a lot of times what you think is hunger pains can actually be curbed with h20 because you're more dehydrated than you think! Best of luck to you!

I've found that when I get "stuck" (and I mean for more than a month gaining and losing the same 5 pounds) I have to completely change my routine. I've gone from simply counting calories of whatever I was eating to eliminating all grain products, restricting carbs and dairy, and going all out eating veggies and protein. You could call it Paleo I guess. I've only been doing it a week and I see a difference. I'm not bloated and I don't retain water as I did before because I'm not eating processed foods with lots of sodium. Within 3 days of starting to eat clean, my brand new jeans that were tight, fit just fine straight out of the dryer! Check out NerdFitness and marksdailyapple if you are interested in Paleo eating. They have tons of great info to get you started. I also increased my walking to 60 minutes of intervals at least 4 days per week.

Good luck with whatever direction you choose!
