Getting Over a Plateau?!?!?

I have been up and down the same five pounds for two years. I lost 15 pounds fast about three years ago and now have a good 40 pounds to go. For some reason my body is comfortable where I am right now. BUT Im not comfortable. I have lost many inches off my body but that stupid scale will not go down!!!!
For exercise right now I'm doing Jillian Michaels Body Revolution and walking 30 minutes a day. My question is, if I want to get over a plateau and lose weight on a consistant basis, should I do cardio most of my workout days with limited weight lifting.

WEIGHT is a function of calories.

Weight lifting or cardio doesnt matter.. your DIET does.

^^^This is true. It's 80% diet 20% working out. If you open up your diary you'll get more constructive feedback.

I would actually suggest the other way around. To get off the plateau, focus on strength training. Building muscle will naturally increase your metabolism, which might make your body less reluctant to let go of some of the extra. Cardio is great for your general health; like your heart, blood pressure, respiratory, stress, and general fitness. But I've read that cardio doesn't have as much to do with weight loss as people think. Building muscle does.

Losing weight in general is much more a function of what you eat, when you eat, etc. If weight loss is your true goal, you need to continue watching your calories and then also build muscle to burn excess calories more efficiently.
  • Hi! The weight lifing will help reshape your body as well as build muscle, which all of us girls need! Weight loss is 70-80% diet and 20-30% working out. I'm an online fitness coach and have been a gym rat for 30+ years, and until I took my weight loss to the next step and changed my dietary lifestyle, I never could lose that extra weight. I know that eating processed foods is a large problem in this country and obesity is the result. So I joined in with a group that helped me eat better and cleaner. I also do P90x now and I never thought I could do something like that, but the nutrition part helped me get stronger. Oh, and I'm 53 years old so I'm no whipper snapper! LOL But you can do this...really. It just takes some guidance and support.

I have a facebook group at www.facebook.com/coachtammym that is free if you want support in your weightloss journey. I do it as a way to pay it forward in addition to my work as a coach. Send me a FB request and say hello and I'll add you in. we talk about fitness and food and issues about both...that kind of stuff. I would love to have a new member and it's completely free, no strings attached....just good vibes :-)

I've hit a plateau once or twice, but not for as long as you!

Get angry. Do not allow your body to control your lifestyle. Use your frustration to either lift heavier, add reps, or push harder. And as always, eat clean(er).
  • Why run less? I am curious?:flowerforyou:
