HRM question

I've had my HRM Polar FT4 for 2 weeks. The first time I walked 5.2 miles I burned 684 calories, the second time, same distance shaved a few minutes (only thing different was I didn't go up the hill, I reversed the route) I burned about 70 less calories. I understand that, but today we increased the hills with a new route, shortened the time (speed) same miles and I burned 555 calories this morning. Is my heart responding to the exercise that quickly? I have lost 1.8 lbs since getting it. So, will I burn less calories the more fit I become?
Thanks
Thanks

Your body becomes more efficient as you work out. My recommendation is when you are walking, keep your heart rate in your target rate zone...my doctor told me mine, but you may be able to find yours online after putting in your height/weight etc. also make sure to update your weight as you lose so your HRM is accurate.0
