What are the tools you need to lose weight?

My husband wants to get on board the fitness train but I'm afraid he does not have the patience to join this site and log in every morsel so I need YOUR help.
I've been on this site for a few months so I haven't had to worry about BMR, BMI, BMX, BRB calculator, blah blah blah, since I first joined. (last two just a joke).
Anyway - can someone please tell me the necessary tools I need to get him started. Which calculators tell me what his caloric intake should be to maintain his weight and what he should intake to lose weight? What are the names of these calculators and what is everything I need to get him started. How do I find out his current estimated body fat percentage, etc.
I wanted to use MFP's tools, but also other resources so I can google it but just don't know what all I need.

This is my favorite calculator site:
http://www.cordianet.com/calculator.htm
It explains the difference between BMR and TDEE, and gives you all versions of the TDEE calculators and how they work and what they take into account.0 -
Wow. Thank you. I will check it out now.0

You also may want to check out Lyle McDonald's Website for setting nutrient intake for fat loss and muscle gain.

Online body fat calculator, I use http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/home-body-fat-test-2774-143.html.
but if you go to a gym they can do it there.0
