My first half marathon is a week today and my last long run was yesterday with 8 miles. After my run was done I had pain in the front of both knees so I iced them. Later on in the day my right knee was back to normal but my left one is still sore. I couldnt put all my weight on it walking. When I touch the front right part of my knee that is where the pain is.

Im scared my knee wont make the whole half marathon. Has this happened to anyone before and what did you do about it?

  • First, you have to listen to your own body, but based on what you describe: You are doing the right thing - ice and rest is what you need. Don't worry about running this week. Don't run at all if it hurts. Even if you were 100 % your running should be limited and very slow this week. NO running might be the best medicine. And ice at least three times a day.

It could be a lot of things but if it is a very specific spot and hurts when you touch it, then it might be bursitis. All runners have things to manage, but they are often managed by the same thing: ice and rest. In the end, it is managable and fun to work through these things!

    All the best!

Any training you do this week is for cardiovascular fitness and just simple miles anyhow. I say don't run on it all week. Any running you do this week isn't going to improve your race for next weekend. Focus on rest, hydration, diet... you should be okay by next weekend. Have a great race!
