Hi Everyone, My husband and I are going to the Palomino tonight to celerate the new year but we can't find any nutritional information about their menu. My husband called and said they dont give it out because eat menu item is made to order and it changes based on who's cooking. Does anyone know or have an idea what is in the four cheese penne? My husband loves it but doesnt know how to log it in his food journal. Thanks!

Perhaps you can find another restaurant that has something similar and "estimate" the calories. Try Carrabba's (Im from Florida and we don't have Palomino's restaurant here but I'm assuming that it is Italian) or another national chain and try to compare from there.
That's interesting that they mentioned that it was different each time dependent on the chef. If that is the case, ask for half the cheese, light oil, and extra veggies- and take half home. If each chef is in that much control of the kitchen then he/she should have no problem with a special request.0 -
There are some entries for four cheese penne right here on this website. You can take those and google some and then average them all out and come up with an estimate. That's how I would do it. Enjoy your dinner!0

Thats a great idea! It was odd to us that they wouldnt even tell my husband the ingredients and honestly, up until this week, it really didnt matter to us. But it does now and in using MFP now, we want to be accountable to ourselves for what we put into our mouths. Thanks for your suggestions!0

Well, it's not so odd that they wouldn't tell you. I've worked in restaurant kitchens, and there is not a measuring device in sight. Chefs tend to cook by sight and feel...this ladle "looks" like the right amount of oil, etc. When you're cooking that way, you don't have strict consistency from one meal to the next, so you really can't say how many calories are in the food. Also, some chefs like to let the creative juices flow, so the ingredients aren't always the same for one day to the next...and the more high end the restaurant, the more likely you've got an artist back there slinging olive oil and bleu cheese around.
Definitely customize the order when you place it...AND limit yourself to a half order. On a busy night, the chef may ignore your request, the waiter may grab the wrong plate and bring you the full fat and calorie version ordered by the table next to you. Get in some extra exercise tomorrow, and go right back to eating healthy.0
