I started my journey May 1st. Actually wayyyy before that. I had been at 1200-1300 calories for months with no loss at all. May 1st I went to 1530 and for the whole month of May I lost 2-3 pounds a week. In June it tapered off so I bumped to 1600 and I've stayed there. The losses have been verrrry slow in the last couple of months. Not even a pound a week. I exercise 5 days a week for usually 45ish minutes doing DVDs at home. I am starting to do some jogging a couple times a week also. I decided to up my calories to 1800 last week to just kind of "refuel" my body since I've been at 1600 for so long. Should I do 1800 this week too or go back to 1600 or go even lower? My bmr is about 1590 now and my tdee is about 2400. I have about 50 pounds more to go. (Lost 17 so far.) I'm just needing some opinions on what I should do. Obviously 1600 hasn't been working as well as it should...not even a pound a week and that's what I have MFP set to.

I just scanned through your diary.
If It's accurate, you are NOT eating 1600 calories a day. There are days where you don't get withing hundreds of calories of your goal.
Be honest with yourself.
Also think about what you are eating. Are you eating lots of healthy, whole foods? Are you eating a balanced diet?
Try eating all your calories, tracking EVERYTHING including all your exercise.0 -
Either you are not logging everythign or you are not netting 1600 calories. You're final day needs to be AFTER exercise..
Also I notice you bust fat by a lot on most days as well as sodium and carbs!! Sodium will make your retain water and your fat is not as healthy as it could be.
I'd stick to a 1600 calories diet (net) and lower fat, carb and sodium intake and increase water intake. You should see results pretty quickly!!0 -
The last few weeks there have definitely been days that I didn't finish up my log for the day, but I pretty much eat the same stuff everyday so I usually will gross about 1600. We've had a lot going on the last month with our youngest who has heart problems. Been traveling w/ him for hospital stuff etc. so that has a lot to do with not finishing up the days. If you do look at my diary be sure to start at about August 25th and go back. After that is when all the stuff starts w/ my kid. I can't blame the problems on the last couple weeks cause its been going on for a lonnnggg time. I will say that I have had some yuck choices in the last couple weeks which is why this week I'm trying to just re start and figure out what direction to go.
Thank you!!0 -
If you have a sick child, your focus of course will be on your son.
Are things settled down with him now? If not, give yourself some grace to take it easy for a while, maintenance might be a good goal for a while.
If things are settled with your son for a while, the advice still stands. Take a long hard look at WHAT you are eating, track all of it, including water and exercise, and see what happens.0 -
And I do hope everything is going well for your son and his prognosis is good.0

Ditto what jeme3 said. Also, change up what you eat and the type exercise you do. Not all exercise promotes weight loss. Stress can upset weight loss as well. Don't obsess about it, eat healthy, exercise, practice some sort of relaxation and it will come. Just remember, skinny doesn't equal healthy. Concentrate on being healthy.0

Ohh thank you! He's doing well. Just found out this last week they are hoping to get him through the winter before doing another intervention, which is great news! So I can relax and things can go back to "normal" for a while. Thank you for asking about him.
I'm starting a running routine with a good friend of mine so I'm hoping that that change will help me out a little as well. Tonight is our 2nd run. It's been a lifelong dream to become a "runner".0 -

That's good advice. I do get in ruts with my foods and exercises. I need to find some more easy healthy recipes.0
