How can I burn more calories?

I tend to do classes mostly, simply because if I don't do classes I get bored and leave the gym within 20 minutes!!
I see all these claims and people saying they burn upto 600-700 calories in the classes.

My heart rate monitor says that i only burnt 350 calories in Zumba today (60 minute class) and 450 in body combat...

What am i doing wrong!
I am 140 lbs, and push myself as hard as I can in the classes, honestly I feel like i am going to die after the classes!

Are peoples claims over estimated? Or is it me ? :(

    Some people are over estimating of course. But they could also be a lot bigger than you. A large male would probably burn 2x the rate that you do, for example. Only way you can burn more calories is higher intensity and/or longer duration. There's no magic to it.

    You are 140lb.. thats why you don't burn 600 calories in a class.. the more you weight the more you are likely to burn.. the more in shape you get the less you will burn.
