Just remember, you didn't gain all your weight in one day and you aren't going to lose it all in one day. It takes time and you just need to go day by day. Don't focus on the big number because it becomes overwhelming. Set mini goals for yourself and reward yourself when you reach them. This isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle change. You can add me as a friend and I will be here to support you. You can do this.
  • Hi there! I agree with my other pals on here. Also, don't focus so much on what not to eat but more on how much of it you eat and the biggest thing to do is getting in your exercise at least 4-5 times a week for at least 30 minutes. I'm not saying to exercise like you're a bodybuilder either. Get your heartrate up even if it's just walking. Good luck!

welcome to MFP...this is a valuable site/app. but it is only a tool and like most tools learning to use them to there best advantage is the key. a great start is to begin to be aware of what you are consuming and your daily output... find friends in like minded individuals... for some people they need to have a certain level of critisism of what they eat and praise when they are doing it right... for others all that is needed is a pat on the back as they are going along with out the harsh critisism.

should you find that you need a friend to offer support but not critisism I am here feel free to add me. I honestly dont typically look at diarys I feel like you are your own best judge. but I will be there to offer a shoulder to cry on during the tough times and to act as a cheerleader during the good.

From someone who has just been here a week now...

Alot of folks I've seen here say that they set themselves with mini-goals, and that is an awesome way to do it. Another way...my way, is I look at that weekly goal I setup of losing 2 lbs a week as my mini-goal and I'll tell you this, when I weighed in this morning and beat that goal, I've been grins all d*** day!

The other thing I use as my little bit of motivation for my exercise is when I do 40 minutes on my bike and I see that I can now have an extra 300 colories for the day...all I can think is "YAY! Extra dressing on the salad!"

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that the goals are great and a help, but try to find the rewards in every step you take towards your end Goal. I entered my "end goal" and haven't thought about it since. I will check my weight each week and gloat over the scale when I match or beat my weekly goal and that's all that you should ask of yourself too

Looking at the number can definitely be overwhelming, and can wreak havoc on your emotions. What I try to do with my patients is to try to get them to forget the number, and just focus on trying to change lifestyle - meaning slowly increasing exercise and focusing on small food goals. Staying motivated is a big thing that people struggle with which is why this site is so awesome! There are so many great people on here to keep you motivated and to encourage you when you aren't having the best day/week/month. Feel free to add me as a friend! I love helping people, and I have a huge wealth of nutrition knowledge. Best of luck in your journey!!
