Women's Boxing

So I have been t oying with the idea of joining a new women's boxing club . The club is a little out of my area and so it would really need to be worth it for me to join because it is not only far but expensive!

Does anyone have anything to say about boxing? Keep in mind I'm not very coordinated-- like at all-- and I'm intimidated by situations like these. I keep picturing really toned, athletic women at this place!

Could you sit in for a session, so you can see what it's like before you pay for it? I don't box, but I think it would be a great workout.

I swear, I could have written your post. I've always wanted to do a kickboxing class but have had trouble finding one nearby. All the ones I find are aerobics-type classes, like TurboKick. (And i do TurboFire for free at home, so obviously don't need that!) I want one with the bag and the whole works. But, like you, I am totally intimadated by situations like that and picture the exact same kind of people that you do.

I bet that doing a class like that would probably surprise you though and you would get over the intimidation in no time. I can't imagine doing a class/activity like that and not coming out feeling SO powerful afterward!
  • djeden, yeah I wish that the club was nearer to me. I think the fact that it is so far and costly just adds to my reservations. I actually lurked the club on Facebook, and I saw pictures of some of the work outs and there are... er... "fluffy" people like me there. But the trainers are all super toned, hard bodied MEN. Which really intimidates me!

Nifty, I can sit in on a work out or try one for free! I may do that. But IDK... I'm so shy!

It's too bad you girls aren't in my area. I run Cardio Kickboxing classes at Allaire Fitness (www.allairefitness.com) and women love them. All levels welcome!

Yeah, I think sitting in on a class is the way to go. You will always be curious if you don't. And really, you might end up being surprised that the people are all super friendly and the class is exactly what you want.

Oh and re: "fluffy"... heehee. (it's just a funny word)

Boxing is a great cardio workout that's fun and is also a good way to get frustrations out via hitting a heavy bag hard! :)

Agree with others and sit in on a class - or meet with a trainer to show you the basic punches (jab, cross, hook, upcut). Usually a good class is structured with 3 minute rounds of boxing followed a by 1-2 minutes of squats, lunges, ab work, etc. repeating for an hour or however long the class is.
