What Can You Tell Me About Planet Fitness?

We have one about to open near our apartment and I've never been in one. What all do they have?

Unless you are a try hard kind of person. Then they see you as a judgmental elitist.

I have a hard time taking any gym that serves pizza and bagels to their customers seriously. But then again, I don't think PF wants to be taken seriously. It seems like a place for people who want to pretend they're trying without actually putting forth any real effort.
  • Its cheap. You get what u pay for. If your just looking for a place to work out and u know what u r doing then its great. If you r not really sure what u r doing or what u need to be doing i would go to a gym that have ppl to help u cuz most of the workers at PF have no clue what to do.

I joined PF a month ago. I happen to love going there to workout. There is no better price around w/out having to commit to years or more. I don't like the idea that they have pizza and bagels,so I choose not to partake in those events. But to those who can and want to participate, that is a kind offer. The only thing you need to know is how to work the machines, they have staff to show you the machines but no true fitness trainor. They do offer classes to explain types of workouts. All I can say is when I can afford it,it keeps me motivated.

Sounds like pizza & bagels = repeat customers for LIFE! Smart business plan.

I am a member at the new Planet Fitness here in Knoxville.....nice place, great people, and I am able to do everything I need to do to get my workout in. Check it out, take the tour and see for yourself.....it is not like a muscle head gym....That I like.

I'm considering joining one. I have a history of joining clubs and then not going (I'm perfect for their business plan. )For a couple of years I had a membership at Equinox -- a really nice, full-service club -- and one year I went a grand total of six times.

My understanding about the Planet Fitness clubs is that they're clean, pleasant, and no-frills, with excellent hours. As I'm not someone who ever attends classes, having access to decent cardio machines and a couple of weight machines like the Lat machine and an Assisted Pull-up is all I need. I've read that they don't have a good selection of free weights.

I suggest going by and asking for a tour.

It's a very tacky gym for those who aren't interested in serious lifting but are interested in getting fat off of their free pizza.

I'm not sure they offer free trials. I was told that I could work out for $20 and if I decided to sign up it would count towards my membership fee.

I already go to a gym that's 24 hours a day. This would be literally within walking distance. As far as my workouts I do free weights a good bit and do alot of dumbbell action. I'll have to take a tour and decide if it's for me.

Definitely a good idea. The one by me (and most that I've heard of) only have up to 75lb dumbbells, with no free barbells (just smith machines and those dinky little pre-made barbells). I passed, in a hurry.
