Can Indian take-away be that calorific?

I just had:
Just over 1/2 a cup butter chicken (that's three 1" cubes of chicken & sauce)
1/3 cup tarka dahl
1/3 cup lamb rogon josh (2 cubes of lamb)
1/4 plain naan

That's almost 600 cals.

I also had 1/3 cup quinoa (224 cals)

Usually, I fill up at around 500-600 cals - hunger signals stop, no matter what. It feels like I had maybe 400 & am still hungry :(

Do these numbers make sense (given the portions)?

I wouldn't be surprised if the calorie count was even higher than your calculation. Indian food is quite often cooked with a lot of oil. Even the basmati rice will have added oil. And the naan are grilled with oil.

Unfortunatley Yes! Indian food is very high in calories becuase of the ghee that is used. The baked stuff like chicken tandoori is better calorie value IMO.

I love Indian food but steer clear of it these days

The numbers make sense. But 600 calories for a meal that really enjoy sounds OK - you did well with the portion controlling.

Yes, Indian food can use a lot of oil, cream and sometimes butter, so it can be quite high in calories. It sure is delicious though!

Thanks ladies! Cruel that such delicious food carries such a cost :(

@Melanie - cheers :) (except, I went back and had more, lol, it just wasn't enough! Will shave some cals off the rest of the week to make the difference.

Was totally worth it, btw. It's just takeaway curry, but the cook at the place I order from has blessed hands. Perfect balance of spices, tender (organic!) meats (chicken is chickeny, lamb, lamby) - om nom nom.

I'd think it'd probably be more...

Mmm, now I want curry chicken.
