Ugh, I gain like 5 pounds during my period. I take a water pill, and midol. But nothing seems to help. So I could use suggestions on what to eat. But, keep in mind I am not allowed to have raw vegetables, and most health food. Thanks.

I don't have any food suggestions except 1 question: Do you lose it back afterward? If so, why worry about it?
  • No it stays with me....

    Why can't you eat vegetables?

    Are you drinking enough water?

Why would your eating be any different during your period?

Um... eat the same things you'd eat if you WEREN'T on your period? What does your menstrual have to do with the types of foods you eat?

The only reason you'd gain the 5lbs and KEEP it on even after your period is over is because you over eat by 17,500 calories.
    My suggestion: Stop over eating.

Stick to fruits and vegetables - if you can't have raw veggies (why can't you???), then cook it.

If you're worried about the water weight, eat clean. I've been eating lots of hard boiled eggs, nuts, fruits, veggies, beans (not canned) and lean meats. I think it's been helping me. It helps me stay full too, cause during that time of month I am RAVENOUS lol

    Good luck! Hope this helps.

You add 5 lbs every month due to you cycle and it stays with you after your period is over? That's 60 lbs a year, 120 in two years, 180 in three years...etc....

It's perfectly normal to add a couple pound of water weight for a few days each month, but then drop it right away afterwards.

Eat like you always do, drink lots of water, and if it freaks you out to see those few pounds every month, don't weigh yourself that week.

Why change - just eat what you normally eat.
If you suddenly gain weight while you have your period it's bound to be due to water retention, which will go away on its own.
    Don't overthink this!

eat food. a normal amount. dont binge. work out. I dont understand the problem... and why cant you eat raw vegetables? and do you really gain a permenant 5lbs every month? And why cant you eat health foods? Did the dr tell you to eat potato chips and chocolate... I dont understand...

Are you sure these ailments aren't just in your head? like a mind over matter type of thing.

Mashed sweet potatoes are my go to food - especially when I'm on my period (which does give me, and plenty of other women, crazy cravings
every woman experiences here cycle differently, some have no symptoms at all, some have been documented actually killing people it makes them so crazy
personally mine make me feel like I have the flu, tummy troubles, throwing up, exhaustion, yay fun stuff! and it is hard to keep up with my typical healthy routine when I feel so icky)
But I digress - boil and mash a sweet potato with some salt and pepper (and a little butter if you have the calories to spare) and you have a health, yet yummy sweet, addition to your meal. They really help curve my sweet cravings during TOM and are just plain awesome anyways. hope that helps :)
