Does anyone take any kind of medicine like tylenol or motrin before or during a long run?

No but I do take Ibuprofin Twice Daily in the AM and PM sometimes I will do Tylonel in the Afternoon. I do a daily Lunch time run Monday thru Friday just FYI. 11:30 till 12:30. When I mean sometimes like maybe once a week or every two weeks I try not to take the tylenol too often.

If you tend to get achy enough to take it after a long run, it's a good idea to take it before instead. Stops the swelling from occurring in the first place or at least limits it.

NO, NO, NO! Why would you drug yourself for exercising? You should want to listen to your body's signals.

During a long run your organs have to work harder to keep up with the demands of your body. Add tylenol or ibuprofen before the run and you could stress your kidneys and liver even more. Plus, why risk getting an upset tummy or runners trots? If you need to take pills to get through your run, you should probably take a day of rest instead and let your body heal.

I don't think I'd want to take anything that may mask what my body is trying to tell me and there are better ways to deal with post-run aches and pains (rest, ice, anti-inflammatory foods - I have a major aversion to analgesics unless it's something major or fever). If you're feeling really beat up after a long run (and we've all been there) try an ice bath - torture but they help.
