Clothes Shopping

So, it's fall time, time for warmer clothes.

I'm currently a size 14, however, it's starting to look a LITTLE saggy on me, but size 12 is just a little too tight to look good or be comfortable. I'm 5'7" and 184 pounds, just wondering how much weight I would need to shed before I"m in the size 12's comfortably... Based on the kind of responses I get here, I'm going to make that my new short term goal so I can go clothes shopping.

Thanks for helping! :)

  • It really depends on your body and shape. For most women weight comes off of the thighs last (or nearly last) so there's no real way if telling. Why don't you make it your goal to lose a number of inches from your lower half (like 2-3?)

It's all about body type, exercise routine, genetics, etc.

For instance, it typically takes me 10-15lbs to reach a new size. However, I lost 1.5lbs over the summer and I'm down a size - because of my exercise (heavy lifting and some cardio).

My thighs are thin, but I carry a lot more weight around my middle.

Everyone is different. My suggestion is to buy stuff on clearance, and buy a few things a size smaller than you think you will be so you have it, just in case.

It all depends. I own sizes 14-4 in my current closet. What I did during the weight lost process was buy the least amount in a certain size I could and belt the crap out of the other things.

I'd say if you lost another 5-7 pounds you should be comfortable in a 12...I can go from one size to another with a 10 pounds loss.

I think the average is about 15 pounds per clothing size. That's been about true for me. Aim for 7-10, perhaps?

I wish I could help you, but there are so many factors involved. For example. Between January of this year and June I only lost 2 pounds but I went from a size 10 jeans to a size 6. I was lifting a lot during that time so I lost quite a lot of inches but very few pounds.

    True story.
I'm 5'4, weigh 180 and I fit into 10's and can squeeze into 8's in the target curvy cut size, so.....ya....just keep trying on clothes every once in a while for the hell of it.

    I'm 5'8 -- 182-184 & I can wear a size 11-13..all depends on the jeans. All my Levi's are size 13's though

Like they said though it all depends on your shape..to me I have more belly than most ladies with the same stats as me.

I'm trying to think when I fit into size 12s....I think I was right around 175/180 and I carry my weight in my hips and thighs.

At 162 I'm on the cusp of being a 10, I think if I lose another 5lbs and keep at the weight lifting I'll fit.

When I did buy the 12s, they were snug, but as I continue to wear them they are loosening up. I also hit the clearance racks for my in between clothes, and got some $20 clearance jeans from gap outlet which have lasted me all spring and summer.

I'm 5'8" and currently 162lbs. I carry most of my weight in my hips and thighs, with a relatively flat butt. Cute right? Anyway, I recently left my size 12s because I could pull my pants down without unbuttoning/unzipping. I am comfortably in size 10 pants. I wear medium tops. I think my 12s were most comfortable at 170-175lbs.

It might be better to rely on your measurements than your weight for this one. While there are variations between brands, for the most part they have sizing charts that rely on hip/bust/waist measurements. Even then, it's not precise, but it's a way to get an idea.
