I made a blog post not long ago about this very thing... http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Mama2SethandOlivia/view/why-you-should-take-progress-photo-s-412845

It isn't necessary no, but I do believe it helps keep one going. If you have a lot to lose then you may end up like me where you just do not see the progress in the mirror but a photo will show it. I believe they are important but not necessary.

One of things that kicked my a** into gear was seeing an old picture of me when I was smaller. I couldn't believe the difference in my face! So yes I took before photos. But I don't really plan on showing anyone else. I just want to be able to look at it and see how far I've come.

^ i cant post those two pictures enough.
  • I didn't realize how necessary it was for me until I kept looking at myself in the mirror thinking I hadn't really changed at all... then I put together an old picture of me and a new picture of me and thought "Holy crap! I used to look like THAT?!!" Makes me feel good to look at old and new pictures now... :blushing:

Take a before pic. They are so nice to have when you get close to your goal size to remind you how far you've come.

Take the photos...I don't have a good before photo (just group shots at work events), and even though I realize that my old clothes do not fit at all and that I'm buying much smaller sizes, I don't really "see" the difference as I didn't see myself as big as I was before, and I don't really see myself as small as I am. The "proof" is in the pictures.

if you have a significant amount of weight to lose-take a before pic. It will be so motivational for you. Continue to take pics at each mini goal met so you can SEE the difference. Pictures are worth a 1000 words!

Yep...I had my b/f take some before photos of me. They are disgusting but they are a HUGE reminder to me of what I did to myself....and never to repeat that mistake.

its not necessary..but on those days when you are down in the dumps..its a nice reminder of how far you have come.. I didnt start taking "after" photos till I was 15 pounds down...and as you can see from my profile pic..that was about 40 pounds ago..Its AWESOME!

My BEFORE picture is what I was BEFORE I gained 30+ lbs. It is my profile pic and my motivation. I don't need to remember the permanent muffin top I seem to be "blessed" with right now. I don't need to be reminded of the extra roll of flesh around my middle...it nags at me every day. If I knew 5 years ago what I know now I wouldn't have been so critical of my thighs.

Yes. You will regret not doing it.

    YES AND DOUBLE YES

    TRIPLE YES

I have zero pics of myself at 170lbs. The one in my profile was after losing 20lbs.
So it's not necessary, of course your lose will count but for your own self reflection it probably wouldn't hurt to take one. Even if you are the only one who ever sees it.

YES. Take before photos!!! Looking back, I wish that I had taken more when I was bigger. Sometimes I feel like there hasn't been much of a difference and then I look back at photos and its like WHOA!!!! That feeling is such a great feeling and inspires me to keep going!

<<<<<<<< That's my "before" picture, after loosing 14 pounds.

It's down right horrifying if you ask me.

But, I has really bounced me out of denial about how big I am right now. It's so much easier to fool myself when I only see the top half in the mirror (don't have a full length mirror) or when I hide behind my kids or husband for pictures.

It's depressing to see myself like that, but it is motivating me to work to change it.

This is very old, but this is my before and during of just 1 month apart from one another. I didn't think there was a change but when I see this I was amazed...

My 30 day shred results of why it's important to take photos of progress especially doing a program. I would have never known how my body was truly transforming without photos.

This is just the first round.

I took pictures of myself in my underwear on my cell phone. I immediately emailed them to myself and deleted them off my phone, so nobody could ever see them. I'm glad I did. 38lbs later it's great to see how far I've come. :)
